The Venezuelan Premium Light Beer That Never Fails: Solera Azul—The Blue Queen of Light Beers! [Eng/Esp]
Greetings, friends at Beer! Welcome to today's review for the #BeerSaturday Challenge. I admit I’ve been a bit absent lately—real-world obligations have really piled up—but we just got our end-of-month paychecks this week, and like any wage earner, buying our favorite beer is practically a religious ritual! I’d like to invite the enigmatic @vezo to join this interesting initiative; I honestly have no idea if she’s a beer lover, but I’d like to think she’ll surprise us by participating with a powerful brew.
But getting back to the beer I’m sharing today: I didn't have any luck finding craft beers. It seems the current situation in Venezuela has all but wiped out the distribution of those truly exquisite craft beers from Aragua State, so we had to settle for the brewery that holds the distribution monopoly: Polar. This time, however, I opted for one of their other product lines—the Solera brand! Specifically, the Solera Azul; it’s one I hadn't tried before, and as you can see, it looks quite appealing.
I bought a six-pack for the weekend, but my brother had already brought some Zulia beer, so I kept these in reserve, waiting for the right moment. That moment arrived last night—a Wednesday—when the heat was at its peak, even at 9 PM. The humidity here is intense, and when it rains, it actually makes the heat feel worse, so cooling off with a good beer becomes inevitable. In my case, I was about to play my usual round of daily Splinterlands battles, so it was the perfect time to beat the heat and focus on winning strategies!
This beer is essentially a premium light lager that has gained popularity in Venezuela in recent years, competing with its sibling, Polar Light. It has an alcohol content of 4%, making it ideal for moments like this when the heat is stifling. This canned version holds 250 ml; there is also a bottled version—which I would actually prefer, as it comes in 350 ml—but I chose this one because the bottled option wasn't available.
I prefer Solera over Polar; in fact, this isn't the first time I've reviewed a beer from this brand in this community—I previously reviewed the Solera Bohemia, which was a special, limited edition. Both beers stand out for being balanced and smooth; they are characterized by a palate-friendly quality that makes them ideal for accompanying lunches like roasts—or what we call a parrillada here in Venezuela!
Another great advantage of this brand is that, while light, it maintains high quality standards; the price is what makes it truly attractive—it costs $0.90, and you can even get a discount if you buy a six-pack. It’s simple: you don't really notice the alcohol content, so you can have a good time with friends or, in my case, focus on securing victories in Splinterlands.
All in all, friends, this is a perfect beer for tropical climates—there is no doubt about it. Given that, I give this beer an 8/10! Its key characteristics include a smooth, refreshing flavor with a light touch of hops, accompanied by subtle fruity notes that make it very easy to drink. It is ideal for those who prefer a beer that is neither heavy nor bitter.
Well, friends, I hope you enjoyed this review of a magnificent beer. This was actually the last Solera variety I had yet to try, and it is definitely worth it—whether paired with a meal or enjoyed while out partying with friends. It is a refreshing, high-quality, and—most importantly—affordable choice. See you in the next #BeerSaturday challenge! Cheers.

Saludos.
