A big hello to the Beer community! Wishing you a happy start to the week and a Merry Christmas, I didn't want to let these last days of December pass without participating in our usual #BeerSaturday challenge. Today I want to share more than a review; I want to share a ritual that we Latin Americans have in the hours leading up to Christmas Eve, and that is that depending on the region, different things are customary. But before we begin, I'd like to invite my esteemed friend @buiitre to join this great beer initiative and share his favorite beer in a post.
But then, getting back to the original topic, in Venezuela, most people usually make hallacas (a kind of tamale filled with meat, chicken, and seasonings) on December 24th or 31st. In my case, we have a barbecue with pork leg, tenderloin, chicken, blood sausage, and chorizo. It's a very special time that I share with my mother, my brother, and my nephew, and it's become a tradition, especially after overcoming so many difficulties that all Venezuelans have faced. Of course, a barbecue wouldn't be complete without its beer鈥攊t's a fundamental requirement! So we went to the mall to one of the supermarkets with the best beer selection in downtown Caracas.
I spent more than an hour looking at the enormous variety of national and international beer brands and presentations, but if there's one thing my mother loves to receive as a gift, it's special edition beers. They were just displaying this special edition from the Solera brand for its 70th anniversary, called Solera Bohemia. I had never seen this particular version before, so I assumed it was completely new. My mother's eyes lit up as soon as she saw it, and that's when I realized that this was the beer we would be taking home.
The design of this presentation is certainly very unique, as it's completely different from all the other presentations Solera has released. I only learned of this anniversary edition when I bought it, but upon closer inspection of the can, I realized its alcohol content is around 4.2%, lower than the classic Solera at 6% and even the Solera K枚lsch at 5.5%. So, this is a milder beer than its older counterparts.
Once we had the meat and chicken on the grill, it was time to try this enigmatic beer. Upon opening it and pouring it into our mug, I was struck by its brilliant golden color and that creamy head that I love. As I mentioned before, this presentation is completely new. Checking the brand's website, it was released at the end of November, so there isn't much information about this beer. Therefore, I dare to speculate that this is a Bohemian-style beer, that is, a lager, because as soon as I opened the can, the first thing I noticed was that pronounced aroma of roasted malt, as well as the herbal aroma of the hops.
After taking the first sips, my speculations were dispelled. This beer falls somewhere between the Solera Cl谩sica and the Solera Light. On the palate, it has a subtle sweetness from the roasted malt, and although the bitterness of this beer isn't immediately apparent, I noticed that its bitterness was moderate.
My mother was also excited by the aroma already wafting from the barbecue and wanted to try the beer too, so I poured a second glass of the delicious brew, and we toasted to good health and enjoying these wonderful and cozy moments with family. She also liked the taste of this brand, and afterwards we even regretted not buying more six-packs at the supermarket.
In the end, we had a wonderful time as a family enjoying this beer while we sampled the grilled food! My rating for this anniversary edition of Solera, commemorating its status as the first premium beer in Venezuela since 1955, is a solid 8.5/10. It's a very well-balanced beer for all tastes, so it's very enjoyable. In fact, as I write this, I'm getting ready to go buy a couple of six-packs of this brand to have them nice and cold for the 31st, and a couple more Peregrinas craft beers that my doctoral students told me I could find in the historic center of Caracas, which I plan to review for you to kick off 2026. Well, friends, all that's left is to wish you a happy and prosperous 2026, good health, and that you enjoy these days with the best company. Cheers!

Salud!
