Today I'm going to tell you about a food in my state. The snack I am going to talk about today is called ‘Shan Kaw Poat’ in Myanmar. My mother bought for me these two snacks from market today. So today I am going to tell Hivers about that traditional snack and its taste. There are two colors of this snack. One is white and the other is black. The snack comes in two colors and two flavors. I think this traditional snack like English would be called 'Shan Black and white Glutinous Rice Cake'. An image of this traditional snack is shown above. The sellers of this snack only make and sell it in the winter. I do not know how to make this shan tradtional snack. But last winter I saw this snack recipe at a friend's house. They use Glutinous Rice and Sesame to grind in a large bowl like the stone bowl.
I have seen most of this snack being sold by elderly grandmothers. My mom bought this snack today for two flavors. You can't eat this snack without frying it. You will see that the Black Glutinous Rice Cake is big as shown in the picture. I cut it into small pieces to fry. White Glutinous Rice Cakes are small round so I don't have to cut it.
Now I am ready to fry them. When the oil is hot, I add some glutinous rice cake and fry it. It does not take much time to fry them. When the cakes change color slightly, you can put them in the plate. Since I will eat them alone, I only fry ten of them. Some people eat this snack with jaggery. I prefer to eat it with sugar.
Black Glutinous Rice Cake is made with Black Glutinous Rice and Sesame. Before frying Black Glutinous Rice Cake, it was very hard. After frying, it does not harden. I also get the glutinous rice aroma when I eat it. It tastes sweet. But not too sweet.
White Glutinous Rice Cake is made with Glutinous rice. Before frying the cake, it was white. When fried, it turns slightly yellow. The taste of this White Glutinous Rice Cake is not sweet. Some people eat this White Glutinous Rice Cake with tomato sauce. I ate it today with sugar. Of the two types of White Glutinous Rice Cake and black glutinous rice cake, I prefer the taste of black rice cake. At first, I planned to eat those rice cakes alone, but my brother ate with me. My brother also likes the taste of Black Glutinous Rice Cake more.
