Hello friends, I hope you are well on this beautiful Wednesday morning. Today I bring you a different walk, a change of scenery, as I am spending the vacations at my dad's house in Havana province. Today we went out to do some shopping and I wanted to take the opportunity to show you the neighborhood and other places, shall we go?
My dad lives in the municipality of "10 de octubre", in Luyanó Causeway, it is a very busy place where all the buses and other vehicles pass. It is a very long and wide road and my dad lives in a building in front of Luyanó Polyclinic.
We had to go to the market of "La virgen del camino" to buy some food for the house, but first we had to go through the ATM down the road, so we walked all the way to the market.
On the corner of my dad's block we found some graffiti that describe very well the current situation of Cubans. On one side a woman drinking coffee (essential drink for us) and on the other a man who looks very hungry and only has in his stomach a chicken thigh. There is not much to explain, I know that this graffiti makes a lot of sense for us Cubans 😔.
In the front corner there is a small store selling various items, mainly decoration. The glass and the sun did not let me take good pictures of the interior, but you can see many ornaments and handmade objects, very nice indeed.
Going down the street, we see that there are several small sale business in the doorways of the houses, and in front of the ATM there is this store of national currency (which was closed) and a bakery on the corner.
Nothing else caught my attention until we got to the market, where we did our shopping and headed to the bus stop to return home. This whole area is called "La virgen del camino" and there is a big park where there is a monument of the virgin, where people come and put flowers. The monument is under roof, so it also provides shade to people who pass by and need to rest from the intense sun.
Finally I want to show you this coffee shop that is a little further up the road from where my dad lives, about two blocks from the polyclinic. It is a particular cafeteria, but what catches my attention is its name: "La Ronda", because it is dedicated to Ronda Rousey, the UFC fighter. In this place they sell pizzas and delicious drinks, among other things, and inside you will find many pictures of Ronda Rousey and her fights in the UFC. I definitely have to plan a little getaway here. But well, that would be the subject of another post.
I hope you have found this walk quite entertaining, take good care of yourselves and stay hydrated this summer 😊.
