You think it's a pun but it's not! In thai, we call porridge or congee 'Joke' !
Today, I'm sharing this one local place for breakfast, Joke Lanna (Sirimangkalachan branch) โจ๊กลานนา สาขาศิริมังคลาจารย์. Just a minute or two drive from Nimman area in Chiang Mai. A small breakfast stand located in front of a dormitory at Sirimangkalachan.
First of all, let's talk about the name. Joke Lanna - it sounds like a bad joke, but .. wait, the food here is no joke. The menu is simple yet satisfying, featuring rice porridge, pan-fried eggs, and small Vietnamese bread rolls.
Now, good that I'm a morning person. So the opening time till 10ish is not a problem. The smell of freshly cooked porridge and eggs was enough to perk me up.
We ordered all the items on the menu which there only 3 things. The rice porridge was thick, creamy, and flavorful. I opted for the pork sausage porridge, which was cooked to perfection with tender chunks of pork mixed in. The egg pan was also a winner, with a perfectly cooked egg and crispy edges with all the sausages goodies. The Vietnamese bread rolls - small and ok for the taste I think. Crispy exterior and soft, chewy interior.
What I love about Joke Lanna is not just the delicious food, but also the fact that it's a small local business. The environment is cozy and casual, with only a few tables and chairs to sit at. And best of all, the prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you get.
If you're in the area and looking for a quick, delicious breakfast, give Joke Lanna a try. It may be small, but it packs a punch. Just make sure to get there before 10:30am or you'll miss out on this joke that's no laughing matter.
