In addition to my vehicle registration renewal, this time of year marks a couple of other turning of the cyclical leaves, both in celebration of the most important person in my life. The birthday of, and my anniversary with, my best friend, my writing partner, my husband.
One year ago was our tenth wedding anniversary, and we spent it in Las Vegas. Not, you know, getting wasted or blowing money in casinos. No, we spent the perfect weekend discovering how strange and compelling the city’s mannequin displays are, and running all over the city surreptitiously photographing them and coming up with jokes and captions.
To plenty of people, romance means roses and beach walks and boxes of chocolates and frilly cards. And sure, those things can be romantic. But being goofy and creative and adventuresome hand in hand? To us, that’s romance.
