Era el día perfecto, todo estaba arreglado para su declaración de amor. Había pasado mucho tiempo desde que Pedro se había enamorado de Esther. Ella era la mujer más especial que había conocido, y su amiga desde hacía muchos años atrás. Hasta ahora, no se había atrevido a decir nada. Pero eso estaba a punto de cambiar, o al menos eso quería él. Muchas veces, por miedo a perder su amistad, había hecho cosas que no quería, como por ejemplo, cambiar su respuesta por una más “normal” cuando ella le preguntaba cómo se veía, o disimular sus celos cuando ella le hablaba de algún chico que le gustaba. Quizás ella pensaba que él era tosco o insensible en algunos momentos, pero la verdad era todo lo contrario. Y estaba a punto de descubrirlo, aunque tal vez no de la mejor manera. Pedro se había aliado con Pablo, hermano de Esther, para declarar su amor de la manera más espectacular posible. Con este cómplice era mucho más sencillo saber el mejor día para llevar a cabo su plan. Gracias a esta alianza podía confirmar los muchos datos importantes recopilados a lo largo del tiempo. Nada podía salir mal. Pedro preparó todo. Llevaron las cosas a casa de Esther aprovechando que ella estaría trabajando y no regresaría hasta tarde en la noche. Todo estaba listo. Solo había que esperar la llegada de Esther, quien por cierto se tardó un poco más de lo normal. Pero los nervios y la emoción del momento hicieron que Pedro se olvidara fácilmente del tiempo. Por fin llegó, abriendo la puerta principal, tan solo teniendo que recorrer unos pocos metros para ingresar a la sala. Pero, tristemente para todos los planes que tenía Pedro en mente, ella no venía sola.
Entro tomada de la mano de Gabriel, quien hasta hace unos meses había sido su novio, pero que debido a muchas decepciones había hecho que ella decidiera terminar la relación. Justo ese día él la había buscado, pidiéndole una nueva oportunidad, a la cual accedió sin pensarlo mucho. Querían dar la noticia a toda la familia lo antes posible. ¿Y ahora, qué haría Pedro?
Fue imposible evitar que ingresaran a la casa. Ella, al ver todos los globos, dulces y el inmenso letrero donde se reflejaba la pregunta “¿Quieres ser mi novia?” se quedó sin palabras. De hecho, hubo un silencio que pareció eterno y que solo pudo romper el ingenio de Pablo quien dijo:
- Aquí mi amigo Pedro que se ha enamorado de una hermosa mujer y quiere declararle su amor. Pero, ya sabes cómo es él, siempre quiere que todo salga perfecto, así que colocó las cosas aquí para ver cuál era nuestra opinión.
Aunque su corazón latía a mil pulsaciones por hora, y las palabras de su boca salían con poca fuerza, pudo decir esta frase de manera audible. Pero ella, que lo conocía muy bien notó la diferencia en su voz, el nerviosismo que claramente se reflejaba en sus gestos. Y sus ojos evidentemente humedecidos, y los cuales no dejaron de mirar en ningún momento las pupilas de ella, la hacían aumentar sus sospechas: él estaba allí por ella.
Casi inconscientemente había tomado las manos de Esther mientras decía esta frase, aunque de inmediato la soltó y tomó cierta distancia.
Una vez salió, Pedro solo pudo romper a llorar mientras sentía como su corazón, y todas sus ilusiones, se habían roto en mil pedazos en tan solo un instante. No sabía lo que pasaría luego, pero estaba más que claro que este no sería su día favorito. Además, muchas dudas rondaban su mente.
Quizás más adelante podría saber las respuestas. Pero, por ahora, solo le quedaba llegar a casa, llorar hasta quedarse dormido y olvidar que en este día, el cual pensaba que sería el más feliz de su vida, se habrían truncado totalmente sus planes.

They placed many heart-shaped balloons in the living room of the house, there were a lot of goodies: candies, chocolates and many more. Pedro knew Esther loved them and spared no expense. Everything was ready. We only had to wait for Esther's arrival, who by the way took a little longer than usual. But the nerves and the excitement of the moment made Pedro easily forget the time. He finally arrived, opening the front door, only having to walk a few meters to enter the room. But, sadly for all the plans Pedro had in mind, she did not come alone. She entered holding Gabriel's hand, who until a few months ago had been her boyfriend, but due to many disappointments had made her decide to end the relationship. Just that day he had sought her out, asking for a new opportunity, to which she agreed without much thought. They wanted to break the news to the whole family as soon as possible. And now, what would Pedro do? It was impossible to prevent them from entering the house. She, seeing all the balloons, candies and the huge sign where the question "Will you be my girlfriend?" was reflected, was speechless. In fact, there was a silence that seemed to last forever and could only be broken by Pablo's wit, who said:
- Here my friend Pedro who has fallen in love with a beautiful woman and wants to declare his love to her. But, you know how he is, he always wants everything to be perfect, so he put things here to see what our opinion was.

Although his heart was beating a thousand beats an hour, and his voice barely came out, he was able to say this sentence audibly. But she, who knew him very well noticed the difference in his voice, the nervousness that was clearly reflected in his gestures. And his eyes evidently moistened, and which did not stop looking at any moment at her pupils, made her confirm her suspicions: he was there for her. What happened next convinced her.
Almost unconsciously he had taken Esther's hands as he said this sentence, although he immediately let go and took some distance.
Once he got into his car, Pedro could only burst into tears as he felt how his heart, and all his illusions, had been shattered into a thousand pieces in just an instant. He didn't know what would happen next, but it was more than clear that this would not be his favorite day. Besides, many doubts haunted his mind.
Maybe later he would know the answers. But, for now, all he could do was get home, cry himself to sleep and forget that on this day, which he thought would be the happiest of his life, his plans had been completely dashed.
