A question often asked by my kids. And when I answer that in the weekend and they don't like the answer, they say: Ok well, I will eat at my friends house lol...
I have to admit, while working, coming back from work and still have to cook (me or my wife) , we often create a repetitive meal. I mean during the week. One day some pasta, a different day some cauliflower, green beans... Not much variation. It's not really laziness but we the inspiration and the time for it doesn't seem to be there..
So I was a bit fed up with a lot of the same during the weeks so we decided to get us a meal box at our local grocery. A meal box is a complete meal which you have to prepare following the recipe. In the box every ingredient is added except for the meat. The advantage of such a box is that you can choose out of different meals and there is plenty of variation. For example tonight we had Suriname Roti, all fresh.
the Roti was delicious, but besides that they have many more meals like:
The danger in these packages is just like the initial problem, not a lot of variety. So I have looked for some more providers of these healthy meal boxes, and I found out there were plenty.
One of the most well known is probably Hello Fresh. You can take a subscription for the boxes and decide how many you want to receive per week , you can order up to 4 meals a week for as many persons as you would like. The downside of Hello Fresh is, for me, the price. It is about 70 euro's for 4 meals. Although it isn't really expensive, we always buy our meat ourselves, and these boxes include the meat.
The cool thing is that you can select dishes based on a lot of options, for instance preparing time. Imagine you have a busy week and want to eat healthy though but preparing time can't take longer then 30 minutes, or you want to have a calorie low week... it is all possible.
I'll bet these initiatives also exist in other countries won't they?
Do you have these in your country?
And how do you get your inspiration for dinner? I'm looking forward to your ideas :)
Have a great night,
Peter
