Us茅 mi camiseta favorita para guiarme del modelo.
Almost all of us experience that terrible experience of receiving a gift that we really like, but it doesn't fit our body well.
For me it is very common because I am very thin and clothes in my size always fit me too loose, especially flannels, which are made for normal people who with my height have a much wider frame than mine.
All my life I have loved the idea of being able to adjust my clothes to my whim, but it has been the same story of most people with areas in which they are neophytes: a little fear, a little laziness to learn and a lot of excuses.
There was a time when I decided to sew my shirts on the sides and sleeves, to make them a little less baggy, I did it in a very rough and risky way. I lost some and others were saved, but I never again became interested in learning the fine arts of sewing and tailoring.
I have always seen with great interest the freedom with which people who know how to use the right tools to make a garment live. I feel that they live with a certain freedom that we mortals cannot give ourselves because it is very expensive to take all our garments to the tailor, especially when we only want small touches. We prefer to downplay the importance of those little details, but those details are exactly what make the garments look perfect and allow us to show our true personality.
That's why I decided to dedicate some time to using the scissors and the sewing machine to turn some flannels into T-shirts, although I'm going very slowly. This is a very important sector of my closet because I have many sport flannels that are very comfortable and cool, but it would help me a lot if they were even cooler, since I use them frequently when I need the highest possible level of freshness: when I run long distances.
For my first attempt I chose an old flannel that I don't wear and was ready to throw away. It's the perfect candidate for my first attempt, because I was still going to leave my house.
I used my favorite t-shirt to guide me to the pattern. It's incredibly cool and comfortable, although I think that has more to do with the type of fabric, but the point is that I like the pattern, so I'll try to reconstruct it.
I used a regular marker, scissors, thread and a Brother sewing machine.
First I used the marker to scratch out the lines along which I was to cut the old flannel.
Then I cut with the scissors. This part was a little scary because I wanted this to work as well as possible, even though I probably won't use the shirt.
On the first sleeve I made an attempt to sew a piece of fabric to cover the edges, but failed miserably. It is much more difficult than I had imagined. Maybe I'll keep trying in future practices.
I decided to hem the edges and sew them together just like that, with no extra fabric. It looks very rough, but at least I got the seam through where I wanted it to go.
The result shows me that I did do it wrong with the scissors. The neck was very irregular and deformed.
With the sewing I also have a lot of room for improvement, but I think that the second attempt will be a success. If so, in the third session I will do it with one of my favorites and ideally I will have my first running shirt personalized by myself.
Thank you so much for joining me in this new hobby! I'm sure it will be one of the best I've ever had.
