Not Easily Broken is an interesting Christian movie, that I enjoyed watching. It explores realistic marital challenges, a movie that addresses and portrays the issues couples face in reality.
It's a movie that teaches about the commitment couple share in marriages, the need for forgiveness and faith in their marriages.
The movie showcases realistic difficulties that threaten relationships/ marriages.
The movie tells the story of a married couple who were deeply in love and building a stable relationship and everything begins to fall apart after a tragic accident. That changed their lives and affected the love they shared.
Both couple, Dave and Clarice, who were portrayed by Morris Chestnut and Taraji P. Henson, respectively. They have been married for years, they have endured their marriage hurdles for years, but beneath the surface of the marriage are emotional distance, undiscussed/ unresolved frustration and disappointment between them both. It all began to come to the surface when Clarice got involved in an accident. They required enough support and physiotherapy for her to heal.
During her healing stages, which was really difficult for Dave, he began to spend more time with a lady he felt appreciated his efforts more than his wife.
The lady called Julie appreciated and understands him better than Clarice , and this affected his marriage with Clarice, a marriage that was already which was already going down the drain.
Meanwhile, Clarice during her healing stage felt disconnected with her husband, while she struggled to heal physically and emotionally from her injury.
This movie portrayed marital problems in a very realistic way, watching this movie, I learnt that marriage isn't always perfect, love isn't enough to resolve issues, love doesn't automatically solve problems in marriages. This movie shows issues that can be resolved through communication can create distance between two people, it teaches why emotional neglect should be avoided in marriage, shows how pride can ruin a happy home. It shows the imperfections of Dave and Clarice. They both had flaws and had to resolve those together.
The movie also teaches the importance of communication. The major issue faced by Dave and Clarice was their inability to communicate and express their feelings to one another. The movie teaches that marriage doesn't only require a physical connection, but also an emotional connection, commitment to each other, the willingness to walk through difficulties and hard times and understanding.
The performance of the two major characters in this movie, Morris Chestnut and Taraji P. Henson, is the best part of this movie for me. They both delivered their roles effortlessly. Taraji P. Henson portrays the role of Clarice perfectly, she portrayed and showed her vulnerability, frustration in the marriage and determination to fix her marriage perfectly in her role as Clarice. Dave and Clarice did a great job in their performance in this movie.
I really love and admire the way Dave and Clarice portrayed and made their marital struggles/ issues seem realistic in this movie. Their performance made the movie themes relatable in real life marriages, to me that's the movie's greatest strength.
Not Easily Broken (2009), just like the name of this interesting movie implies, it taught me that marriage can be full of imperfections, could be full of wounds and surrounded by numerous challenges, but that doesn't mean it is unfixable or will remain broken.
This movie teaches that love and marriage can be tested by unforeseen circumstances that is never expected. It teaches that mistakes, and disappointments are inevitable in marriages, but with genuine commitment and the courage to confront problems it could be fixed, instead of running from them.
