This is my post on #freewriters3223 #dailyprompt belief hosted by @marinnewest's.
The old bridge had stood through a century of storms, its wooden planks groaning under the weight of doubt. To the village below, it was a death trap—rotten, unstable, and long abandoned.
Only Leo walked across it every morning.
People called him foolish. They pointed to the splintered handrails and the churning river far below. But Leo didn't see rotting timber; he saw the echoes of his grandfather’s hands, the man who had built it with a promise that it would hold any soul brave enough to trust it.
One autumn dawn, the village council erected a sturdy iron bridge just downstream. It was gleaming, safe, and heavily engineered. Everyone abandoned the old path, marveling at the modern marvel.
Yet, Leo still walked the trembling planks of the old bridge. When a skeptical neighbor asked why, Leo smiled, patting the weathered wood.
"The new bridge keeps you safe from the river," Leo said softly. "This one keeps me safe from myself. It holds because I believe it holds."
That afternoon, a sudden gale battered the valley. The new iron bridge buckled under a fallen oak, twisting into useless scrap. But the old bridge swayed, groaned, and stood firm—bound together not by nails, but by unwavering faith.
