Last Saturday, the 17th, I followed my usual weekly routine of spending the weekend outdoors, looking for scenery and wildlife to photograph. While walking along the ridges of a rice paddy, I caught sight of a beetle with a striking metallic-green color.

To be honest, in all my time spent searching for subjects to photograph, this was my first encounter with this particular type of leaf beetle. I was absolutely thrilled—it felt as if I had discovered a truly precious treasure.

Without a second thought, I tried to take a close-up shot using a macro lens, but the beetle was quite agile; the moment it heard my footsteps, it took flight.

I wasn't about to give up, though. After a bit of a chase, I finally spotted it again among some dry, grassy undergrowth. I managed to catch it and placed it in a jar so I could photograph it properly.

Later that afternoon, I took the beetle out for a photo session. After spending a few hours in the jar, it had calmed down and was simply crawling around on a leaf. Once I finished taking the photos, I released it back into the wild.

This insect is commonly known as a metallic-green leaf beetle, named for its glossy green hue and the fact that it is frequently found resting on foliage.
