Many people are of the opinion that relocation comes with many benefits, as it is often influenced by several factors. People relocate for different reasons, and since time immemorial, human beings have always been mobile. The desire to travel and explore other parts of the world has become important because it allows us to see how other people coordinate their affairs and how their ways of life can positively influence us.
However, times are changing, and people are changing with them. Today, one of the major reasons people relocate is for economic opportunities, especially in parts of the world where the exchange rate encourages people to seek better-paying jobs abroad. Many people work overseas and either return home with their earnings or send money back home to build something meaningful and secure a better future for their children.
Another reason people consider relocating is security. I agree with this to some extent because I understand that crime exists all over the world. The difference lies in the level of crime and how governments respond to it.
I was discussing this with a friend who wondered why almost everyone wants to relocate. If you look at it closely, you will understand that people want to relocate for several reasons, especially in a country like ours. The system does not favour those who are less privileged or come from humble backgrounds. The rich are getting richer by the day at the expense of the poor, and there are no meaningful incentives from the government to cushion the effects of poverty as seen in many developed countries. Imagine that in some countries abroad, even if you are unemployed, you receive financial support to help you survive until you secure a job. Here, however, we receive little or nothing from the government despite the abundant resources our country possesses.
The most disturbing part is that you often need to know someone before you can secure a job in many government parastatals. Sometimes, I begin to wonder whether there is hope for the common man and whether the future of the younger generation is truly secure considering the current situation. Although no country is perfect and every nation has its shortcomings, ours seems to be going beyond acceptable limits, and it is painful to think about.
The truth remains that there is no place like home. We need to work together to make our country a better place for everyone. Not everyone can leave the country, and even if you manage to relocate, what about your relatives and family members who remain behind?
There is still much we need to do as citizens of this country, and we must continue to demand better leadership and good governance from our leaders.
