Hello my fellow Nigerian writers, first and foremost, happy 63rd independence celebration of our country (Nigeria)π³π¬π³π¬.
Today, there will be lots of merriment, speech (heart felt, or not...who knows), and parades all over the country most especially in Aso Rock today, with the motive of celebrating the country's New age (63). To be honest, times like this bring back childhood memoriesβ when we match round the neighborhood, with our school drums, dressed majestically in white and green, dancing and proudly holding up the country's flag.
Well, a lot has changed over the years and for many reasons of which two majors are maturity, and lost hope, myself, and I believe a lot of other Nigerians, have stopped matching round the neighborhood, or even stopped cooking special meals during independence (the price of things is even enough warning)...I actually had a mixed feeling writing this postβ Yes I'm happy we are still together as one nigeria, but I'm still yet to see a major advancement in the country and this saddens me. Infact, I don't even know at this point, if the country is worth killing a turkey for, for instance looking at how the currency of the country just keeps losing its value...at this point telling children that the Naira was once stronger than the dollar even makes them look at you like a mad fellow and that's quite disheartening.
What about the educational sector, it also isn't getting any better with the excessive strike that turns a 5 years course into a 7 years course, indirectly making the student's school ID cards expire when those students are yet to graduate (This one is even funny). Even likening Nigeria to a human, I strongly believe that even a child growing up from 0- 40 years old man/woman in the right state of mind, should Increase in productivity, Increase in logical reasoning, increase in responsibility for his or her actions, and most importantly, develop as he or she tends to 40.
But looking at our country, it's just like the reverse is the case...so tell me what exactly is the use of the celebration, when the so called giant of Africa no longer have its proof of being a giant. Sometimes I just look at all this and just want to change my nationality to Ghanaian lol. Although personally, I gave up on the country years ago, but then recently, I just keep having this feeling/wish( I don't even know which one is still in me), that Nigeria will be great again. But when?
Do not let the answer to that bother you, because I don't know either, but I believe it's the moment we are able to tackle our major and obvious problems (corruption, corrupt leaders, tribalism, etc),
do the right things ourselves, at least in our own little way as law abiding citizens, and most importantly see the good in the country regardless of the current mess she is currently inβ Because you only have faith and hope on something you believe, and see 'good' in.
I'm really sorry this post looks more like a rant post than a congratulatory message to the country π π , but then I believe once in a while we just have to speak up, and hope we are able to impact little knowledge into others.
Once again, happy 63rd Independence to Nigeriaπ³π¬π³π¬, and all Nigerians!!! hopefully, I repeat, hopefully this new age brings positive vibes and improvements to Nigeria at largeβ¦ I know change takes time, and it's very crucial to keep hope alive for a better Nigeria. Cheers to progress and positive transformations in the future!
