I almost forgot that today is October 1st, 2026, until I logged into Facebook and saw a post reminding me that today is a special day for Nigerians. Today, we are celebrating our country, Nigeria, the Giant of Africa.
On October 1st, 1960, Nigeria gained independence. Before then, Nigerians lived under colonial rule and faced many challenges while fighting for greater political freedom and self-government. Many Nigerian nationalists worked for years to make independence possible.
Nigeria has now been independent for 66 years, and I believe this is something worth celebrating. Honestly, I didn't know much about what happened before Nigeria gained independence until I asked my dad to tell me a little about the history. At that time, I wasn't even born, so I wanted to hear from someone who experienced those days.
My dad told me that things were very difficult during those years, but gaining independence was still something people were happy about. It made me think about how far Nigeria has come from 1960 until today.
Nigeria has made progress over the years, but we are still facing some challenges in different parts of the country. One thing that really concerns me is when people don't value the lives of their fellow Nigerians, especially during conflicts that affect people living in local villages and communities.
If I had the opportunity to make a difference in my country, one thing I would really want to do is help stop the violent conflicts that continue to take the lives of young people and innocent Nigerians. I may not know what every other country is going through, but I just hope that things will continue to get better for Nigeria.
We are not perfect, but I believe we can continue working towards a better country. I am proud to be Nigerian despite the challenges we face.
From 1960 until today, Nigeria has come a long way, and 66 years of independence is something we should remember and celebrate.
So, my friends all over Hive, help me celebrate my country today.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary to Nigeria, the Giant of Africa! 🇳🇬❤️
