This is a classic food in our cuisine and a tasty one if you use the right herbs in the correct way. I utilized dried oregano and spearmint, lemon and paprika and I enjoyed a food simple, yet amazing. Also the meat came from a small farm up in the north of Greece, therefore is of good quality compared to meats bought in bulk from super markets.

Ingredients: ½ kg. of minced beef meat (it is better if you mix meats, such us lamp, pork, and beef, but I used what I had handy), 1 soaked in water slice of toast bread, 1 onion chopped, 1 tomato chopped, ½ tsp oregano, ½ tsp spearmint, 2 shots of extra virgin olive oil, ½ tsp paprika, a pinch of nutmeg, salt and pepper. 3 medium sized potatoes peeled and cut in slices, two lemons’ juice (or less depending on your tastes), some extra oregano, olive oil, salt and pepper for the potatoes

In a deep bowl put your minced meet and add gradually the chopped onion and tomato, the herbs, the soaked toast bread cut in small bites, olive oil, paprika, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Mix well with your hand until it becomes uniform. Add a little water if it is too stiff.

In a large tray spread your sliced potatoes and add olive oil, salt, pepper and oregano and mix well. Take the minced meat and create small shapes of meat balls. Place in the tray among or on top of the potatoes. Place in pre heated oven in 170C for an hour. Towards the end of baking, add the lemon juice all over the tray.

I think that this is an easy to make and tasteful dish! Enjoy!
