Residences
There are six different residence types in Three Legacy, and they all do the same thing. . .
Residences provide worker slots. Worker slots are where aliens 'live' while they are reading blueprints, constructing buildings, or completing quests. Having multiple residence types makes it easier to scale your worker slots with your household. Autonomy keeps your household actively queuing for worker slots to become available.

Apartment
With the apartment we reach our last residence, and our first building that is based on circumstances of ancestry. What in space does that mean?
In the beginning, there was Lilith.
Alone, she wandered the universe.
Lilith grew lonely and 'bent light' to birth her daughters —
Eve. Mother of all living…
Sophia. The mistress of wisdom, sagest of all sages.
Lakshmi. The fountain of prosperity.
~from Three Legacy: The Legends~
In Three Legacy, there are these legendary ancestors, and every alien is descended from them. Since each alien has three parents, they inherit three legendary ancestors. You inherit your maternal ancestor from your mother, your sage ancestor from your sage, and your dowager ancestor from your dowager. Each could be any of the three Eves, but hitting certain combinations unlocks particular blueprints.
You can see the ancestry for any alien on its AlienViewer page:
If all three of your ancestors are unique, as in this example, then you unlock the "Child of the Refreshed Gene Pool".
If you are a "Child of Parthenogenesis" you would inherit all three ancestors from the same parent, and if they have any ancestry combination blueprints, you will qualify for the same ones.
With "Child of Parthenogenesis" and "Child of the Refreshed Gene Pool" this creates some delicious narrative irony!
