Orca are one of the most socially connected species on this planet and some would argue they are even more so than humans. The will spend majority of their lives within ear shot of their family members, whose life spans are known to match our own with some animals estimated to live over 100 years of age.
So how do you interact with a socially motivated, highly intelligent apex marine mammal?
Well, simple answer is you behave like they do. we don't speak their vocal language.. yet and here is hoping one day we can. However, body language is another major aspect of communication. Moving forward from that, how do they move amongst each other? they do not swim at one another, they swim with one another. Easy right?
So when you are interacting with them either in a vessel or in the water with them its a matter of moving with them in order to get a positive response. It takes time and practice to read their behaviours more precisely but I wouldn't have it any other way.
