What do you deserve?
It is a loaded question of course. But it is also an interesting question, because generally, we overestimate what we believe we are entitled to, even though if we were to consider someone else in our position, we wouldn't believe they deserve the same.
I come across this a lot.
People who think that because they have been around awhile, or because they are struggling with something, they deserve special treatment - as if everyone has to bow down to them, as if they themselves have no problems in their life.
Do you think that people deserve special treatment?
Under what conditions?
I came across this sticker on the back of a car the other day.
Pay one way, or another.
Do you agree, or disagree?
Do you think that people should get free rides, or do you think that in some way, they have to pay their way?
And, for those who are looking at this too literally, I don't mean giving up ass.
I mean, in order to get value, should a person have to offer something of value - should there be a trade of some sort?
If we go back into our tribal past, do you think that there were people who could offer nothing to the tribe, but would still be supported? Think about it for a moment, because as far as we can tell, everyone had a role to play in that kind of society, where even children were expected to learn how to carry their own weight and the weight of others as they aged. And the elderly, they were the ones that were likely teaching them, as the parents went out hunting and gathering for the good of the group.
The "tribe" was a group of people who each added something to the betterment or security of others. It was a community. And, in the modern era we have lost this sense that in order to be taken care of, we need to offer something of value to pay our way.
Do you think people should get something for nothing?
Or, do you feel people should get something, even though they knowingly offer nothing of value? Do you believe that regardless of how little someone provides, they should be able to get value from others, just because they have been "in the job" for a long time? Do you believe that cronyism is a healthy economic model?
Ever been in a job where they give promotions to people based on how long they have been in the company?
How's that working out?
It is about economics. Basic economics. If more value is being extracted than is being injected, the overall value decreases. When there are people who don't bring value in, but take more out, they are a net cost to the economy.
You know something?
I don't give a crap what people do with their earned HIVE.
But I do give a crap about Hive and therefore the distribution. If there are people who are only extracting whilst not offering value to the ecosystem, I don't think the staked Hive userbase should be using their vote value on them. It is a waste of opportunity. If they aren't bringing people in or keeping people here, they are taking up space.
Is that harsh?
Perhaps.
But as a "bagholder", that bag gives me skin in the game, whereas someone who hasn't skin the game, doesn't wear the same risk. This is the way the system works. It is supported by people with stake and the earnings on the platform have value because people are willing to buy the token and perhaps even, stake it up so they can earn on what they hold too. It might not be the largest amount in the world, but in many countries, it is beating inflation.
If someone wants to sell all they get, that is fine, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with them milking the system. And while it might be "triggering" to say, feeling shit about yourself and your life is not an excuse to take advantage of the platform, and the people on it.
We all have issues in this life.
Own yours.
It doesn't matter how you feel, it is no excuse to treat people like shit.
None.
You can be upset, you can have a bad day or week. You can be depressed. You can have a sick loved one. Lost your job, unemployed, chronically ill, really tired, lonely, unloved... whatever the fuck your experience might be, own it.
If you want help, ask.
But, treat people like shit, take them for granted, assume you are entitled to special treatment, and you will likely find out something about the world -
You aren't special.
We all have issues.
Grow the fuck up.
And by the way. I might be a grumpy old man, but I am not a Boomer. In fact, I am the youngest of the Gen-Xers. That means a full generation before a Boomer. But, unlike the younger generations that have come after, I have an understanding that value isn't granted, it is earned. I know that I am not entitled to anything because of who I am - I have to do something for it. And, I have experience in life - not just at concerts and festivals, but in companies, as a business owner, as a father, a husband, a person who has struggled in many ways, and overcome in some too.
Experience has value.
