ENGLISH VERSION

There are many difficult situations that we can imagine, but living them is another thing. Reality can surpass our imagination and when we try to support someone by saying "I understand you", without having gone through something similar, we are really only trying to be supportive, without really knowing how they feel. You have to "be in those shoes" to know.

We may have seen documentaries of tragedies, a movie or two, but to see on TV what was happening in the world and then how it reached us was shocking.

In the publication: Habits and life-lessons that Covid-19 left us Do you tell us? 8th of 7th day, emiliorios@emiliorios invites us to share the learnings that the pandemic has left us, from a constructive point of view, because if something is certain is that, every experience leaves us something to grow, if we so choose.

The storm always passes Are we better?

They say that after the storm the sun always rises and so it is, the question is, what did we do during the storm? Did we hide under the bed and when it was over, did we go out and complain about how cruel God was for allowing it? Or did we face it with our best resources, with the faith that everything has a purpose and that we should be willing to help those who needed us?

I think that in general terms, we are better now. At least we know how fragile life is and we appreciate our health and that of our loved ones more.

Many people showed solidarity, helping those who no one wanted to be near, for fear of contagion, a fear that I see as justified.

The doctors and nurses worked with very few resources, but they did not abandon the patients, even if it cost them their lives. There were so many heroes, worthy of admiration, superior to those with superpowers in the movies. Human beings are unpredictable and difficult to overcome, even with all their flaws.

My lessons learned from the pandemic

As I said before, the first lesson I reviewed is that we have no control over life, we are fragile and we do not know what can disrupt all the order we have tried to impose.

Many times I wear myself out trying to make things work the way I want them to and when it comes down to it, none of that is relevant.

What is really important is to live each day, in the present tense, letting those we love know how valuable they are to us.

Do not put off until tomorrow what we can do today, because we do not know how many tomorrows we will have.

Humility is another lesson lived during this time. No matter the social position, the job you have, tragedy does not distinguish classes, races or religions, in the end we are all the same: Simple human beings. Besides, you never know who can help you in difficult times.

As much as it may cost us, I believe that we must learn to love our neighbor as ourselves and as long as we don't, life will always have different ways to teach us.

I could also see that there are people whose capacity for sacrifice is an example for everyone else. They are like angels on earth.

My new habits

In terms of hygiene, in our home we maintain the habits adopted during the pandemic:

  • Use antibacterial gel on our hands
  • Wear a mask in crowded places
  • Do not enter the house with shoes
  • Take off our clothes and take a shower when we get home
  • Wash the food we buy.

The positive thing about the pandemic in my home...

Undoubtedly it was the time we shared as a family: games, movies, conversations, meals and recreation, even if it was in our small space. I fondly remember the water basins in our small backyard, where my children bathed.... Suddenly they grew so big, they no longer fit in them.

2021

Something as simple as going out to cut the weeds at our remodeling house was a joyride for us and fun.

2021

Also, when my husband and I would go shopping at the grocery store, we would make it an adventure.

alt
2021

We walked everywhere, because there was no gasoline either, but we did it with joy in our hearts, we were afraid of what was happening in the world, but we thanked God every day for everything He gave us.

In short, the pandemic taught us that we don't need more than what we have to be happy.
