Happy #fungifriday! I found some mushroom photos from my recent trip. Trip mushrooms not trippy mushrooms 馃ぃ
I think this first one is a birch polypore (Fomitopsis betulina) not too interesting but I liked that first photo.
I found this combo of mushrooms interesting.
This is probably some more birch polypore and a smaller shelf mushroom possibly false turkeytail. I liked to see two types of fungi growing near each other on the same log.
Here's a striking yellow mushroom likely a bolete. Very common but still pretty color.
What's a good foraging trip without a friend along? 馃惛
He was a tiny guy but likely an American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus). We were following a small creek/wash that day. As we got deeper into the wash, the water levels started to build up first puddles and then running drainage. As soon was there was standing water, there were frogs 馃檪
Photobomb by long-legged spider. This lone white mushroom caught our eye and pulled us off the trail. The spider was a bonus.
The mushroom is an amanita maybe amanita daucipes not sure about the spider.
Ok while we are slipping in a few non-mushroom photos. Here's a larger frog. This one is a green frog (Lithobates clamitans).
Interesting orange fungi not sure on identification. These look a little trippy 馃
Another UFO (unidentified fungal object). btw The Truth is Out There 馃榿
Here's an easy one. A large cluster of oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus). This cluster was over 1 foot by 1 foot is size.
I think these next two mushroom photos were amber jelly roll (Exidia recisa).
Not a beautiful fungi but first time I've seen it. Or at least photographed it.
Pretty red mushroom - Russula emetica or commonly the Sickener. This is a more traditional, photogenic mushroom than the jelly roll.
Some pretty turkeytail (Trametes versicolor). I always love the pattern groups of turkeytail produce.
Something starting here. Not sure what. Fun to see the way it pokes through the holes in the decaying log as it gets started.
Well camouflaged swallowtail trying to dry out. Ok I slipped in one more non-mushroom picture 馃槉 One of those rainy days on the trip. Good for mushrooms eventually but this guy was not enjoying it.
Fairy fingers or white worm coral (Clavaria fragilis). Very different looking fungi - with a great name 馃槀
Young orange shelf mushrooms. Maybe chicken of the woods or sulfur shelf mushrooms if this was close to home I would definitely be back to check it out as it grows bigger.
These photos were taken on a road trip from Vermont to Kansas. So Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and a short detour into Oklahoma. Always interesting to get out in nature hiking areas that you don't normally hike. Have a great #fungifriday and awesome weekend 馃檪
