Amtrak recently started back up service from Burlington, Vermont to Penn Station in New York City. The new train is the Ethan Allen Express.
The new service includes a stop in Middlebury, Vermont my newly adopted hometown. Well kind of... I live about 10 miles south of Middlebury.
The trains stops at the former depot which now hosts several local businesses. Previously the nearest Amtrak station was in Albany, New York which is over an hour car ride away.
The new station is a "platform with shelter" (you purchase the tickets online).
The first train arriving in Middlebury drew quite a crowd.
Well quite a crowd for Middlebury 馃ぃ maybe 50 folks.
The "new" Middlebury depot that still stands was built in 1891. Train service started in 1849. Passenger service stopped in 1953.
The people working the trains look the same as they always have 馃檪 I guess some uniforms are timeless.
Lovely downtown Middlebury is a short walk from station.
Here's a shot of the train leaving. But now it runs every day southbound at 11am and northbound at 9pm 馃憤
