Welcome to my Starting a garden Post #15 💮.
First a couple of pretty flowers 😁
Painted Daisies finally bloomed. We started these from seeds way back when it was still cold outside ⛄
This is a $1 perennial we picked up last week - seems it is doing pretty well 🙂 Its Cherry Brandy Rudbeckia. Rudbeckia are commonly called Blackeyed Susans but come in other colors too not just the classic yellow with black center.
Now onto the garden - exciting times! We harvested a few things this week.
We pulled a garlic to see how they are doing.
Added some basil from the garden, walnuts, olive oil and parmesan cheese.
Yummy pesto! We used the whole garlic including the greens. We substituted walnuts for pine nuts since pine nuts are crazy expensive right now. The best thing is we have walnut trees! Next year I'm gonna make sure I beat the squirrels to some walnuts and save them back.
Next we have a few green beans that are ready.
Plus a zucchini. Most of our seeds were saved or were free from the town library. Our zucchini are a round, heirloom variety.
And of course, a lot of basil. We planted basil in the open spaces around the tomatoes. There were a lot of open spaces 😊

In the garden, the cucumbers are taking well to the trellis we added.
Last week 😆 The cucumbers made it all the way to the top in one week.
I added some support for the green beans this week.
Plus some bird netting over the blueberries.
I built a simple frame with some branches and attached some bird netting with wire. I left one side loose and just laid a few rocks on the bird netting to hold it down. You can just move over the rock and lift the netting to access the blueberries.
Finally a shot of the tomatoes. They have gotten so tall. Hopefully lots of tomatoes to go with basil latter this summer.
