A few weeks of sunshine and rain have made everything in the garden grow like mad. The strawberries have finished, but other perrenial plants are fruiting.
Our gravel area by the deck is full of flowers and has seen lots of activity by bumblebees and hoverflies. The sweetpeas are taking over and the rose is spectacular. You may spot some chickens roaming in there. They do no real harm. The fence is collapsing in places due to the wilderness next door, but we will be able to harvest blackberries that we can reach.
I am not sure what this plant is, but the flowers are pretty. Most are spikes, but we get some mutant flat ones too.
I have not planted much this year. These are some beetroot of different kinds. Not all of them came up, so I planted some more.
We got a couple of bean plants. Something is eating them, but I have picked a couple of beans so far. Need to keep watering them.
Some of the strawberries are really spreading, so I am trying to pot some new plants in home-made compost. I will sell them or give them away. There is a sort of local streetmarket at the weekend if they are ready in time for that. I hope to get rid of some stuff then.
The raspberries are not really fruiting yet, apart from one nice ripe one I found on Sunday. The blackcurrants are heavily laden and drooping to the ground. I just picked some of those along with dark gooseberries and jostaberries.
I am always out there trimming things back to keep it under control. I need to tidy the strawberry beds soon. We do cut the grass, but do not worry about it being super neat. It is full of things like clover that bees like. The birds have been noisy this evening. It looked like a blackbird was agitated about something.
I hope those with gardens are enjoying them.
