You may have seen that @streetstyle has run a series of Steem promotions about powering up. The latest is for today (1st September) where we have Steem Power Up Day (SPUD) 5. There are prizes to be won for posting about it. I do not qualify for this as my reputation and SP are too high, but it is an opportunity for others. Use the tags #SPUD and #SPUD5.
Yesterday I acquired some Steem by transferring funds to my Wirex card. I converted it to Litecoin on the card and then used @blocktrades to buy Steem. Maybe one day Wirex will support Steem directly. They have an account at @communitymanager, but all it does is post press releases.
So I was able to power up almost 500 Steem. For a new account that could make you a minnow and costs less than £70. I am supporting new accounts using @tenkminnows, but people can get there quicker if they just have a relatively small amount to invest. Steem is a lot cheaper than it was and still has potential to rise.
The idea of this initiative is to commit for the long term to increase your vote than can help to spread the votes better. With less people using 'bid bots' and free downvotes now the users have more power to affect what trends.
I had a target to get to 20,000 SP this year and am almost there already. I am not sure what my earning rate will be post-HF21, but I could probably add at least another thousand by Christmas, more if I find spare cash to buy some.
BTW I am using @steempeak as my main Steem interface lately. Lots of nice features including full integration with Steem Keychain, display of tribe rewards, 'snippets' for things like signature blocks, scheduled posts and much more. I had not been posting with it before, but it looks good for that. They have a default beneficiaries share of 5% which I think is fair. These projects have expenses to cover.
