Today is the day that the Steem community strikes out on its own. Our parents Steemit sold us out to a nasty step-parent who showed little interest in the founding principle of freedom. @justinsuntron tried to seize control by putting puppet witnesses in place, but the community fought back despite his underhand methods of getting exchanges to use customer funds to vote. We had stalemate for a while, but in the end the true community witnesses decided we needed to leave Steemit behind. Steemit desperately tried to fight back by censoring mention of the new Hive blockchain, but it was already too late. Those who cared about what Steem could be had already decided to move on.
As of 2pm UTC today the Hive is active, but may have some teething troubles. The witnesses need to do some processing to get it fully working. I am not able to upload images and have not been able to access my wallet yet. I assume my Steem and SBD have been replicated by the airdrop in Hive tokens. The hardfork excluded some accounts from the airdrop, including those run by Steemit and others who supported the puppet witnesses. I know some people voted for both sides and may find they get nothing, but they still have all their Steem. They will also have Hive accounts, but will have to buy a stake.
I will continue #FollowFriday on Hive and plan to stop doing anything on Steem except for tying up some loose ends such as powering down and dealing with any comments. I want to be where the real community is. We should see various dapps migrate over the next few weeks.
It looks like the community witnesses have dropped off Steem and so Justin can do whatever he likes. Most of them have gone straight to Hive. We need to keep supporting them so they can earn something. I would hope the new Steempeak dapp will provide a witness 'badge' feed as before. Look out for @blocktrades

Update: Steempeak have implemented PeakD already. Unlike hive.blog it has the wallet page. It suggests using Hive Keychain, but that may not be available for all browsers just yet. Things are moving fast.
Others you should look out for on Hive are my friends @pennsif
@adetorrent
@bozz
@slobberchops
@katharsisdrill
@toofasteddie
@ijavee
@northwestnomad and many others I have mentioned on previous #FollowFriday posts.
Expect a few roadhumps in these early days, but I hope that Hive can be all that Steem should have been. Justin and the Tron community may be bitter, but we believe in what we do. It is not just about the money.
I used to say 'Steem on!', but 'Hive five!' seems a popular new sign-off.
Updates below as I find out stuff:
- PeakD is the @Steempeak of Hive.
- @Stateofthedapps has a Hive category that is empty for now, but should have activity soon.
@drakos has created Hivekings, but it may still refer to Steem in places.
- Hive listed on
