For some time we have been looking forward to our big holiday (or vacation if you prefer). The trip started with a night at a hotel near Heathrow Airport to be there for our early flight. We were up at 5am to get a bus to the terminal where we had an early breakfast. Air Canada said we needed to be there 4 hours before takeoff, but we had plenty of time anyway. The flight was fine. I watched a few tv shows plus the recent Dungeons and Dragons movie which was fun.

This took us to Montreal to catch a local flight. The weather there was okay, but Québec is pretty wet.

Québec

The old town reminds me a little of Edinburgh with the stone buildings and steep streets, but it has a definite french feel.

Restaurant

We checked out several eating opinions before deciding on
Mur Mur by the cathedral. They had a few non-meat options.

Food

I had mushroom cannelloni washed down with a beer from Montreal brewery Boreale that was rather nice.

Beer

The carrot cake I had for dessert was lovely.

Dessert

The restaurant has a bit of a nightclub vibe.

Interior

It was raining when we came out, but we had a wander anyway. There are some interesting buildings and the boardwalk above the river is dominated by this hotel.

Big hotel

Our hotel is more modest, but convenient. I am hoping it will be drier tomorrow when we have a walking tour. I need an early night after a very long day. Jet lag may not help matters.

I have only been to Canada once before on a business trip to Toronto, so this is an opportunity to get more of a flavour of this huge country.
