This book came to me by chance. I just arrived to live in Colombia and I read about this book in a newspaper. It announced that the author Fernanda Trias had won the Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz 2021 literature prize, I was curious about the name of the book and while reading it I learned that Fernanda is Uruguayan and currently lives in Bogota working at the University of the Andes.
I read that article and then I completely forgot to look for it, several months passed and I was waiting for a medical appointment, without battery in my cell phone and I was bored, I went for a walk while my turn came and there I saw it in a tiny bookstore, it seemed to be the solution to my boredom.

Plot
Mugre Rosa is a book with an interesting story full of uneasiness.
This novel is born in a port city, which is invaded by an unknown plague, which little by little is delaying everything in its path, from its most emblematic places to its inhabitants that little by little get death.
It is a story with a scenario that floods you with a harsh reality. It is narrated in first person by a woman who lets us see her emotions about life and her most important emotional relationships.
The protagonist lives between the nostalgia of what she was and what she could have been, with a difficult relationship with her mother, a complicated emotionality with her ex-partner who absorbed her with his intelligence, but also disenchants her with his way of being with her. In addition, she spends most of her days taking care of Mauro, a young boy with disorders who can never satisfy his hunger.
Fear and uncertainty are the guidelines of this raw story, full of dystopian, fantastic scenarios and many that openly touch on human reality.
Trama
I must confess that at the beginning of this reading I was confused, it is a quite raw narrative, but also full of very poetic sentences. I read it pretty fast, the truth is that once you get caught up in the narrative you can't stop immersing yourself in it.
I feel it is a very deep book, this woman is steeped in a reality that for many could be paralyzing, however, she continues her life with the greatest impetus that someone can have within so much adversity already almost naturalized. She addresses issues such as loneliness, motherhood, family and couple relationships. It is touching directly how her world changed and is totally ruined and everything is full of death.
It is like being in a desolation without losing hope, sometimes I felt it was a fiction, other times I felt very close to what we lived during the pandemic and many others I even identified with those days in which our country has gone through the darkness.
It is a very explicit narration and in many cases I felt fear, disgust, sadness and anguish. I think it is a book that completely lays bare the fears of its protagonist, leaving her totally exposed, which is fascinating to me as a reader because it is in a way inspiring that nobility of saying everything in total vulnerability.
It's saying it all because you know you have nothing to lose.
