Hello, readers! Today I want to share a review of the book The Seven Years Slip by Ashley Poston.
La historia sigue a Clementine, una mujer que trabaja en una editorial y tiene una tía a la que adora con el alma, con la que hace viajes por el mundo y tiene muchas aventuras. Pero ella muere y ahora Clementine tiene que vivir en su departamento con un montón de recuerdos lindos y dolorosos. La cuestión es que su tía le advirtió que su departamento era mágico, tiene la manía de hacerte viajar 7 años en el tiempo, hacia el pasado o el futuro, y Clementine lo comprueba el día que entra y se encuentra con un completo desconocido en su cocina. Ese es solo el principio de lo que será un enredo en su vida amorosa y profesional.
The story follows Clementine, a woman who works at a publishing house and has an aunt whom she adores with all her heart, with whom she travels the world and has many adventures. But her aunt dies, and now Clementine has to live in her apartment surrounded by a flood of both happy and painful memories. The thing is, her aunt warned her that the apartment was magical—it has a habit of sending you seven years back in time, into the past or the future—and Clementine discovers this the day she walks in and finds a complete stranger in her kitchen. That’s just the beginning of what will become a tangled mess in her love life and career.
Tenía ganas de leer este libro porque vi críticas muy buenas, sin embargo, no me atrapó de entrada. Aunque es una historia agradable con toques de realismo mágico que nunca viene mal. Por momentos podía ser algo confuso, pero igual seguí leyendo porque había algo que me llamaba a hacerlo. Al final resulta que solo tenía que darle tiempo y que quizá iba con bastante más hype del esperado.
I was looking forward to reading this book because I’d seen some great reviews, but it didn’t grab me right away. Still, it’s an enjoyable story with touches of magical realism, which is always a plus. At times it could be a little confusing, but I kept reading anyway because something kept drawing me in. In the end, it turned out I just needed to give it some time, and maybe I’d gone into it with way more hype than I should have.
La historia de amor fue muy dulce, pero no sentí una conexión real hasta el final y por eso se me hizo un poco largo en comparación a otras historias de romance que me atrapan de entrada. De todos modos, lo disfrute bastante. Me agrado el grupo de amigas de Clementine, las ame, y me gustaba mucho el Iwan del pasado, el que conoció Clementine en su presente cuando él se encontraba 7 años en el pasado, pero luego se lo volvió a cruzar en su presente y ahí todo empezó a enredarse y ser un poco complicado, pero igual la historia es simple y fácil de entender.
The love story was very sweet, but I didn't feel a real connection until the end, which is why it felt a little long to me compared to other romance stories that grab me right from the start. Anyway, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I liked Clementine’s group of friends—I loved them—and I really liked the Iwan from the past, the one Clementine met in her present when he was seven years in the past, but then she ran into him again in her present, and that’s when everything started to get tangled up and a little complicated. Still, the story is simple and easy to follow.
Quizá no me enganchó al principio, pero al final lo amé, esas últimas páginas fueron todo lo que está bien y ahí entendí la fascinación por este libro. Incluso me emocioné en más de una ocasión y es que lo principal no era la historia de amor, sino el vínculo de Clementine con su tía, y con sus amigas del alma. También habla acerca de perdernos y volver a encontrarnos, y sobre empezar de nuevo.
It might not have hooked me at first, but in the end I loved it—those last few pages were just perfect, and that’s when I understood what makes this book so captivating. I even got emotional more than once, because the main focus wasn’t the love story, but Clementine’s bond with her aunt and her closest friends. It also talks about losing ourselves and finding ourselves again, and about starting over.
Hay momentos muy reflexivos y frases hermosas, la verdad es que puedo decir que es una trama que se va construyendo página a página y eso es genial porque no es predecible en lo absoluto y te sorprende en algunas ocasiones. La cuestión es que yo quería una comedia romántica que me hiciera reír y enamorar a partes iguales, y quizá le faltó un poco más para terminar de convencerme del todo. Pero es un libro muy lindo y tiene mi visto bueno, está más que recomendado por mi parte. Me gustaría leer más de esta autora a futuro.
There are some very thought-provoking moments and beautiful lines; honestly, I can say that the plot builds page by page, and that’s great because it’s not predictable at all and surprises you at times. The thing is, I was looking for a romantic comedy that would make me laugh and fall in love in equal measure, and maybe it fell just a little short of fully winning me over. But it’s a very sweet book and it has my seal of approval—I highly recommend it. I’d love to read more from this author in the future.
