A few days ago, while I was cleaning and organizing my house, I came across a wonderful surprise. Among some old books, I found a copy of Old Gold (Oros viejos) by Herminio Almendros, a book I had owned since childhood and had thought was lost for many years. Seeing it again made me curious to read it once more and discover how I would experience it now through the eyes of an adult.
Old Gold is a beautiful collection of legends inspired by the traditions of different peoples and cultures. Throughout its pages, we discover stories full of imagination that seek to explain the origins of elements of nature, extraordinary events, and ancient beliefs. Each tale conveys values such as courage, friendship, solidarity, honesty, and respect.
I found the book very enjoyable to read. However, as I turned its pages, I couldn't help but miss my childhood. I felt that I would have enjoyed these fantasy-filled stories even more back then because, during childhood, imagination knows no limits and every legend seems completely possible.
One of the things I liked most was Herminio Almendros' simple and engaging writing style. His language is clear and accessible, making the book enjoyable for readers of all ages. Although it is mainly intended for children and young readers, I believe adults can also appreciate it, especially because it awakens fond childhood memories.
Besides being entertaining, this book introduces us to the traditions and beliefs of different cultures, reminding us that legends are an important part of humanity's cultural heritage. For centuries, they were a way for people to explain the mysteries of the world around them.
In my opinion, Old Gold is a book worth preserving and sharing with new generations. Finding it again felt like opening a small door to my childhood and remembering those days when a book could transport me to magical worlds filled with adventure.

Hace unos días estuve realizando una recogida y organización en casa cuando me llevé una grata sorpresa. Entre algunos libros antiguos encontré un ejemplar de Oros viejos, de Herminio Almendros, un libro que tenía desde niña y que durante mucho tiempo di por perdido. Al verlo nuevamente sentí mucha curiosidad por releerlo y descubrir cómo lo percibiría ahora desde la mirada de una adulta.
Oros viejos es una hermosa recopilación de leyendas inspiradas en las tradiciones de diferentes pueblos y culturas. A través de sus páginas conocemos relatos llenos de imaginación que intentan explicar el origen de distintos elementos de la naturaleza, acontecimientos extraordinarios y antiguas creencias populares. Cada historia transmite valores como la valentía, la amistad, la solidaridad, la honestidad y el respeto.
La lectura me resultó muy entretenida. Sin embargo, mientras avanzaba por sus páginas, no pude evitar añorar mi infancia. Sentía que, cuando era niña, habría disfrutado aún más de estas historias llenas de fantasía, pues en esa etapa de la vida la imaginación vuela sin límites y cada leyenda parece completamente posible.
Uno de los aspectos que más me gustó fue la forma sencilla y agradable en que escribe Herminio Almendros. Su lenguaje hace que la lectura sea fluida y accesible para lectores de diferentes edades. Aunque es un libro dirigido principalmente al público infantil y juvenil, considero que los adultos también podemos disfrutarlo, especialmente cuando despierta recuerdos de nuestra niñez.
Además de entretener, esta obra nos acerca a las tradiciones y creencias de distintos pueblos, recordándonos que las leyendas forman parte del patrimonio cultural de la humanidad y que, durante siglos, fueron una manera de explicar aquello que las personas aún no comprendían.
En mi opinión, Oros viejos es un libro que vale la pena conservar y compartir con las nuevas generaciones. Reencontrarme con él fue como abrir una pequeña puerta hacia mi infancia y recordar esos momentos en los que un libro podía transportarme a mundos mágicos llenos de aventuras.
