Hola de nuevo, amigos de Hive Book Club! Estoy superfeliz de estar de vuelta por aquí para seguir contándoles mi viaje de lectura con la saga Windy City de Liz Tomforde. Si les soy sincera, después de quedar completamente enamorada del primer libro, no lo pensé ni dos veces para tirarme de cabeza a la segunda entrega: The Right Move. Y miren que si la primera historia me conmovió, esta segunda parte superó todas mis expectativas y se me quedó metida en lo más profundo del corazón.
Hello again, friends from Hive Book Club! I am super happy to be back here to keep sharing my reading journey with Liz Tomforde's Windy City series. Honestly, after completely falling in love with the first book, I didn't think twice about diving headfirst into the second installment: The Right Move. And let me tell you, if the first story moved me, this second part exceeded all my expectations and earned a spot deep in my heart.
Para ponernos en onda con la historia, todo gira en torno a Indy y Ryan Shay. Indy es una azafata superalegre y carismática que, lamentablemente, termina en la calle de la noche a la mañana tras atrapar a su novio siendo infiel en su propia casa. Sin más opciones, le toca mudarse de emergencia con Ryan, que es nada más y nada menos que el hermano gemelo de su mejor amiga Stevie y el nuevo capitán de los Chicago Devils en la NBA. El detalle es que Ryan es un hombre superserio, reservado y rayando en lo obsesivo con su espacio personal. Así que, para suavizar la imagen fría de Ryan ante la prensa y a la directiva y de paso darle a Indy una coartada para superar su ruptura, ambos hacen un pacto, fingir que son pareja. Lo que no tomaron en cuenta es que vivir bajo el mismo techo y jugar a ser novios hace que la línea entre la actuación y la realidad se vuelva casi imposible de marcar.
To get us up to speed, everything revolves around Indy and Ryan Shay. Indy is a super cheerful, charismatic flight attendant who unfortunately ends up homeless overnight after catching her boyfriend cheating on her in their own house. Left with no other choice, she has to move in as an emergency with Ryan who happens to be her best friend Stevie's twin brother and the NBA's Chicago Devils' newly appointed captain. The catch? Ryan is an extremely serious, reserved guy who is borderline obsessed with his personal space. So, to soften Ryan's cold public image for the press and give Indy a cover story to get over her breakup, they make a deal: fake date. What they didn't account for is that living under the same roof and playing pretend makes the line between acting and reality almost impossible to draw.

De verdad, amé este libro de principio a fin. El tropo de grumpy x sunshine es por lejos de mis favoritos en la vida, y la autora le sacó un provecho genial. Pero más allá de la química tan bonita que tienen, lo que más me llegó al alma fue cómo ambos personajes muestran realidades súper humanas y serias: las inseguridades, la vulnerabilidad y esas ganas agotadoras de querer tener siempre el control para no mostrar flaqueza. Por un lado, la historia de Indy tocó una fibra bien sensible en mí, su miedo grandísimo a quedarse sola o rodeada de gente que no la valora me recordó una etapa dura que yo también viví. Me tocó despedirme de supuestas "amistades" que no sumaban nada y que minimizaban lo que yo sentía. Leer a Indy siendo esa chica buena que siempre apoya a todo el mundo, pero preguntándose quién la apoya a ella, hizo que me viera totalmente reflejada en su proceso.
Seriously, I loved this book from start to finish. The grumpy x sunshine trope is by far one of my all-time favorites, and the author pulled it off brilliantly. But beyond their incredible chemistry, what touched my soul the most was how both characters reflect such deeply human and real issues: insecurities, vulnerability, and that exhausting need to always stay in control just to avoid showing weakness. On one hand, Indy's story struck a really sensitive chord in me; her huge fear of ending up alone or surrounded by people who don't value her reminded me of a tough phase I went through myself. I had to walk away from fake "friendships" that added zero value to my life and constantly dismissed my feelings. Seeing Indy as that sweet girl who always supports everyone, while secretly wondering who has her back, made me feel completely seen.
Por el otro lado, ver cómo evoluciona la relación entre Ryan e Indy es sencillamente espectacular. Lo que empezó como una mentira para proyectar una imagen de "chico de familia" ante los medios y ganarse la confianza del equipo en la cancha, se convirtió en una travesía preciosa. Conforme pasaban los capítulos, la coraza de Ryan se fue cayendo a pedazos para darle paso a una amistad sincera que rápido se volvió algo más. Y es que Ryan terminó de conquistar a Indy y a mí también, no lo voy a negar, con detalles súper lindos, como acordarse de su café frío preferido o tomarse el trabajo de aprender lengua de señas por ella. La autora hizo que la convivencia de estos dos opuestos se sintiera megafluida, dulce y para nada forzada.
On the other hand, watching Ryan and Indy's relationship evolve is simply spectacular. What started as a fake story to project a "family man" image to the media and earn his team's trust on the court turned into a beautiful journey. As the chapters went by, Ryan's hard shell completely crumbled to make way for a genuine friendship that quickly turned into something more. And honestly, Ryan won Indy over—and me too, not gonna lie—with the sweetest gestures, like remembering her favorite iced coffee or taking the time to learn sign language for her. The author made cohabiting as total opposites feel super smooth, sweet, and not forced at all.
Para rematar, el trasfondo de los dos le dio una madurez increíble a la historia. Entendí perfectamente por qué Ryan era así de cerrado, en el mundo de la fama y el deporte siempre está el miedo de que se te acerquen solo por plata o interés, un trauma que a él se le multiplicó por una experiencia muy fea de su pasado. Y por parte de Indy, el dolor de enfrentar un problema médico que pone en riesgo su sueño de ser mamá es una realidad durísima e invisible que viven muchísimas mujeres hoy en día. La delicadeza con la que Ryan la acompaña en todo el proceso de congelar sus óvulos fue un gesto mágico.
De verdad que este no es solo un libro de romance deportivo, es una historia sobre la empatía, el valor de mandar a volar a quien te resta y lo bonito que es sanar cuando tienes a la persona correcta al lado.
To top it all off, both of their backstories gave the book incredible depth. I completely understood why Ryan was so closed off: in the world of fame and sports, there's a constant fear that people only want you for your money or status, a trauma that got way worse for him after a terrible past experience. As for Indy, the pain of dealing with a medical condition that threatens her dream of becoming a mom is a harsh, quiet reality that so many women face today. The sweetness with which Ryan supports her through her egg-freezing journey was pure magic. The Right Move isn't just a sports romance; it's a story about empathy, having the courage to dump people who drag you down, and how beautiful it is to heal when you have the right person by your side.
¡De verdad qué lectura tan increíble e inolvidable. Me dejó una enseñanza hermosa sobre lo importante que es valorarnos por quienes somos y no por lo que los demás esperan de nosotros.
