Hello, dear friends of the community! I hope you are all doing very well.
Today I would like to share a reflection on a topic that, to a greater or lesser extent, affects many people, especially women: the beauty standards that prevail in today's society.
We live in a time when social media constantly shows us images of influencers, models, and actresses who seem to have a perfect appearance. Flawless skin without marks or imperfections, full lips, defined cheekbones, cat-shaped eyes with long, striking eyelashes, and a perfectly sculpted jawline. Little by little, this image has become what many consider the "ideal" standard of beauty.
But then a question comes to mind: Why do we worry so much about achieving a standard that someone else decided was the right one?
The truth is that every person has their own unique beauty. Diversity is precisely what makes us interesting as human beings. We don't all need to have the same face, the same body, or the same features to feel beautiful and valuable.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with taking care of our appearance. Eating a healthy diet, exercising, and maintaining habits that benefit our health are positive choices because they can improve our well-being and quality of life. However, there is a big difference between taking care of ourselves out of self-love and doing so because we feel the need to meet other people's expectations.
Over time, I have come to understand that the most important kind of beauty comes from within. Our principles, our values, the way we treat the people around us, our empathy, respect, and kindness are qualities that never go out of style and that no cosmetic procedure can ever replace.
Accepting our genetics, our little imperfections, and everything that makes us different is also an act of self-love. It doesn't mean settling for less; it means recognizing that our worth does not depend on a filter, a perfectly edited photograph, or the approval of others.
I believe that the real challenge is not to look like someone else, but to become a better version of ourselves every day. Let's leave behind prejudices, comparisons, and the need to fit into impossible standards. In the end, what truly remains in people's memories is not a perfect face, but the way we made them feel.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to read my reflection. I would love to know your opinion: Do you think today's beauty standards have too much influence on our self-esteem?
