Leave The Light On | Bonnie Legion Feat. Makis Gibs (Original Song)
LEAVE THE LIGHT ON — Bonnie Legion feat. Makis Gibs
A Sound Legion Production*
“Leave The Light On” is a song about learning the difference between loving someone and carrying them.
For a long time, I thought love meant fixing, rescuing, explaining, holding everything together, and walking into someone else’s darkness to find them. This song came from realizing that sometimes the most loving thing you can do is stop carrying people across.
You can still love them.
You can still leave the light on.
But they have to walk.
I created the original beat and wrote the lyrics and vocal for Leave The Light On, then sent the song to Makis Gibs, who built several layers of guitar around it, bringing his own atmosphere and emotion into the track. The final mix was completed by Brian Grass.
For the music video, I combined real performance footage of Makis and me with AI-generated imagery of us, allowing the visual world of the song to move between something real and something imagined — darkness, distance, connection, and the small light that remains when you finally stop trying to save someone.

LYRICS — LEAVE THE LIGHT ON
I used to hear a broken voice
And make it mine to mend
I’d bleed into another wound
And call the bleeding love
I kept a lantern in my hands
For people closing their eyes
God, I got so good at saving
I forgot I was alive
But the river doesn’t need me
To tell it where to run
And the morning doesn’t argue
With anybody hiding from the sun
I won’t carry you across
I won’t drag you through the water
I can love you from this side
Without becoming your savior
There’s a bridge beneath my feet
There’s a fire behind my eyes
If you ever want to find me
Follow what I leave alive
I won’t carry you across
But I’ll leave the light on
I’ve mistaken being needed
For the reason I was born
Held houses up with shaking hands
Then wondered why I was worn
Now I let the silence answer
What I used to over-explain
Some doors only become doors
When you stop standing in their frame
I don’t need to wake the sleeping
I don’t need to prove what’s true
If there’s something here worth knowing
Let it show in what I do
I won’t carry you across
I won’t drag you through the water
I can love you from this side
Without becoming your savior
There’s a bridge beneath my feet
There’s a fire behind my eyes
If you ever want to find me
Follow what I leave alive
I won’t carry you across
But I’ll leave the light on
Maybe love was never rescue
Maybe love was never chains
Maybe I don’t have to follow
Every voice that calls my name
Maybe wholeness isn’t somewhere
Waiting at the journey’s end
Maybe something underneath me
Wasn’t broken to begin
So I choose when I move
I choose when I stay
I don’t owe every darkness
All of my flame
If you come, come because you’re walking
Not because I carried you away
I won’t carry you across
I won’t drag you through the water
I can love you from this side
Without becoming your savior
There’s a bridge beneath my feet
There’s a fire behind my eyes
If you ever want to find me
Follow what I leave alive
I won’t carry you across
But I’ll leave the light on.
Sometimes love isn’t going into the darkness after someone.
Sometimes love is standing on your own side of the river, becoming whole in your own life, and leaving a light burning so they know where to find you — if they choose to walk.
