An exploration of darkness, depression, the shadow self, and learning to move through it all.

This collaboration started when ImprovGuitarJams (Bri) sent me a 20-minute improvisational session he had recorded with Makis Gibs, wondering if I might want to do something with it.

I loved the vibe and seriously considered working on the entire piece, but sometimes creative ideas just don't land where you expect them to. Rather than force something, I decided to let the guys continue with their original session and create something entirely new, inspired by the feeling it had left with me.

I started with a drum loop, built a vocal around it, and sent it over to Makis, who brought in electric guitar and bass. From there, the track made its way back to ImprovGuitarJams, who added rhythm guitar, bringing another layer of energy and movement to the piece.

And "Let It Move" was born.

THE VIDEO

For the visuals, I wanted something dark, raw, gritty, and a little uncomfortable. A grunge-inspired atmosphere that reflected the psychological landscape of the lyrics.

I take my music videos pretty seriously. I even deliberately skipped washing my hair that day to get that messy, Kurt Cobain-inspired grunge look for my performance. 😂 Sometimes you've gotta commit to the aesthetic!

I edited the video in Sony Vegas, using a black-and-white newspaper halftone filter with sporadic flashes, combining our individual performance footage with minimal AI-generated visuals.

A deserted street swallowed in darkness. Bare feet walking through the shadows. Makis sitting on a curb playing electric guitar beneath flickering streetlights, barely visible.

Everything feels a little distorted, unsettling, and difficult to see.

And that's intentional.

THE MEANING

For me, this song is about depression, the shadow side of ourselves, and those moments when our own minds can feel like strange, overwhelming places.

Sometimes the darkness gets so loud that you feel like you're losing your mind. Your thoughts distort your reality, your emotions take over, and suddenly you're standing somewhere inside yourself that you barely recognize.

But I've been learning something about that darkness.

I don't have to become it.

I can let it move around me.

I can move through it.

I can play with it. Tease it. Look it straight in the eye.

I can even let it distort my perceptions for a while, as long as I remain aware of what's happening.

I don't have to fight every shadow, and I certainly don't have to make a home inside one.

I can acknowledge it, experience it, and eventually let it pass.

That's what Let It Move means to me.

And when all is said and done, I fully intend to emerge from that darkness onto some beautiful, sunny beach, dressed like a Disney princess, holding a margarita. 😂🍹🌴

Because seriously... enough with the darkness already!
