What a weird and wonderful tie of year fall is. In between the rain spells, I find myself bouncing back and forth between being in awe of the beautiful weather I’m surrounded with and actively avoiding it. Once my fingers stop working properly, my day is pretty much all downhill from there.
I spent the day yesterday wandering around Portland. I had clocked over 50k the day before, so I tried to take it somewhat easy… which I clearly did not entirely do.. but it kept me confined to a smaller area.
I got up and motivated uncharacteristically early for myself; meaning I was out the door before 5am. I wanted to go skate this recently-completed skatepark nearby- but far away enough that I had to leave at 5 to get there before the Sunday crowds pulled up. I could have, of course, just driven my house over.. but I was up early enough to enjoy the 2.5 hour stroll through the early morning mist.
It didn’t stay mist for long though- shortly into my early morning skate session I started feeling raindrops. SHIT. I knew it was coming- I just straight up forgot. Just absentmindedly started going through the morning routine, still not fully awake.
So, I wandered back home. Most of the walk was super pleasant, although towards the end I definitely wished I had hopped on the bus. Simply because of the dreaded, afore-mentioned hands. I started just dropping shit- skateboard, coffee mug.. whatever was in my cold, poorly circulating hands. Cranking the heat in the van was definitely something that felt earned when I finally reached Mark, parked in all its glory.
Despite wanting to take it easy, and possibly being completely unaware of how much I had already exercised by 10 am… I had a different goal in mind for the day. Embarrassingly enough, I was close to hitting Level 70 in Pokémon Go. So, as I sat in the van in front of the heat vents, I was determined to set out as soon as that phone was at a relatively good percentage.
See, the thing about Pokémon Go is, without actively using your phone.. you’re not gonna get a lot of XP just from walking around. It was wet out, and I kept having to pocket my phone whenever the 5 minute lull in the rain was over. So, I didn’t quite get there, but I got damn close. Less than 100k away. So, even if my screen was dry, my thumb was no longer cooperating with the throwing of a curveball, so I called it quits for the day. So close!
Honestly I don’t really know where all those steps came from. I swear I checked at one point and was surprised I was at 20, and then like wtf with the total. But, I guess I did start the day abnormally early. Pretty damn good day, for a rainy day here in Portland. I might just stay :)
