Another day in paradise

Alright, who am I kidding, it’s not paradise. Life is tough; who is anyone to deny that. But we push through and try to make of it what we can. Therefore, I’m calling it “paradise”, because sometimes, it feels like it.

I started to write this yesterday, and then was quickly interrupted by a friend swinging by the van.. and by the time our little talk was done; I had to book it to work. But yesterday was pretty uneventful, despite logging over 20k, so I’m just gonna stick with the day before as this originally started. Sue me.

The goal of the day was get a heater. Of some sort, of any sort. I already rambled about that on another post, so I’ll spare you all the redundancy. This post is supposed to be about Actifit after all.

I took the bus down to the small town of Sandy; although when you’re living in a town of a few hundred people, it feels like a major city. Even going to an actual grocery store is a luxury right now. As I had to book it to the bus so I wouldn’t have to wait two hours for the next one, my first stop was 7/11; as my coffee mug was empty. Rats

Off to the skatepark I went, and I spent probably a solid couple hours there. Considering how crowded it gets; the earlier I can get there, the better. There was only a handful of people so I had a pretty nice session; my skate legs are starting to come back to me. I say skate legs because, thats drastically different than hiking or running legs.. they don’t really translate the way you might think they do. But some tricks started coming back to me, and I’m feeling overall less squirrely

I had planned to go to the gym after, but I put myself in an indecisive game of pickle instead. I wanted to go view my heater options, made a decision, decided I didn’t want to bring the heater into the gym, walked back to the gym, realized I probably didn’t have time to work out if I was gonna make it to the bus, walked back to the store… you get the picture. When all was said and done I was hiking my way back up to the transit center; little propane test heater under arm.

Sandy is a pretty interesting town that I look forward to exploring more. I know downtown pretty well- and where to buy all the necessities. Fred Meyer, Safety, Bargain Mart, Bi-Mart, Advanced Auto… et cetera et cetera. But there’s a hidden local community here I haven’t really yet experienced. I’ve been getting to know some of my coworkers from the area so hopefully my view of Sandy turns from outlet-store town to interesting Pacific Northwest town sooner rather than later.

Back up the hill I went, and ran a test on the heater; even though it wasn’t too cold. We’ll see how things play out. Keep it sandy folks!
