I have a large specimen I want to show ya'll. This piece is covered in crystals, on almost every inch of the rock. Its appearance changes on each side. On the one side it has a rusty iron appearance. And the other side has a really nice manganese or iron crystal structure. There are a couple bald spots as you can see but mostly covered in crystals.
One side is more Ore like with black, brown and dark colored crystals, and the other side is more Quartz like with less opaque crystals. They have a brownish orange to yellow color to them, possibly manganese or iron crystals.
Its a really big piece, its kind of hard to hold due to all crystals, quite unforgiving on my hands. It looks like a piece of coral I would find in the ocean.
I think it got those dark rust spots when I cleaned it off, as I dont recall it looking this way. But honestly has to say since It was caked in dirt beforehand. So now its like a rusty quartz stone, but as you can see those little stones are crystals on the big rock.
Its funny how you dont know what you have till you rinse them off when finding them in the wild. I love all the color variation on it, from brown to black to red to orange. I found these piece out at the Diamond Hill Mine in South Carolina.
