I have traveled to Graves Mountain a few times now, maybe half a dozen. My most recent visit I investigated a specific area on the Graves Mountain property. This area is named "Mitch's Pond" as designated by signs upon walking up to the now dry lake bed.
In this dry lake bed there are really smooth white rocks, pyrophyllite minerals, yellow inclusions in silicia and some silica that was a orange color. I have never seen an orange silica crystal also known as a quartz crystal. Judging by where I found it, it may be acid etched. As it was sitting in a ravine and looks like alot of water has washed by it over many years. The water runoff is highly acidic due to the mining done at the location. So I assume the rain water mixed with the acid caused this color.
I found other common stones at graves like kyanite and lazulite. Little pieces but still pretty with their blue color.
Since posts #mineralmonday I figured I would show off my recent finds too. Waiting till Friday is just too long.
