Here are a few prairie landscapes for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay
Early in the morning I took a quick walk around the lake nearby where I live and caught this reflective shot.
Later in the day my fiance and I went to a large forest preserve with lots of prairie views.
This preserve has a few large lakes and forest between many wetland areas.
This preserve even has a hill (terrain in Illinois is a rare thing). This large batch of cat tails are where I found baby sandhill cranes. Who knows what other rare waterbirds are hiding in this huge wetland area.
This is a different area of the preserve with an open prairie field and a lake. I often see terns hunting in this lake.
Here is an old photo I got of the terns diving into the lake for a fish.
Now for the forest area of the preserve.
Here is a spruce area. I often find oyster mushrooms growing here.
This is an example of an oyster find from this spruce area.
This is a swamp area in the middle of a forest. I often see wood ducks here in the spring.
This is one of the wood ducks I found on the edge of the swamp.
Finally some algae lol. Lots of mosquitos hatch out of the swamp areas. I have to put on a couple layers of bug spray before going into tge swamp area.
These darn guys swarm you. They even bite past all the poison I spray on myself lol.
That's it for this #wednesdaywalk :-)
