Here is a cold #wednesdaywalk in the winter of Illinois.
My journey started by going through a tunnel under the train tracks to get to the other side where the lake is.
This tunnel creates an opportunity for the high school kids to try and do backflips by running up the sides of the walls.
Some of the footprints are even higher than my head. Let's hope the kid didn't land on their head while doing this lol.
Out on the other side of the tunnel the pathway wasn't shoveled and I stepped into about a foot deep of show.
It is still nice and fluffy left over from the previous all day long snow.
Soon this will start melting into solid slippery ice.
Meanwhile at the lake the poor wild rose hips are sugar coated with ice crystals.
The pathway back home was beaten down by the motivated marathon trainers and bikers.
You get a pretty good workout slogging through the snow slipping everywhere.
For the less motivated they have plowed the track near the high school.
This high school is built on a hill and they have lots of nice trees surrounding it. I wish I could have had a fancy high school to go to like this when I was a kid.
Meanwhile back near the neighborhood the icicles are already starting to grow as the sun melts it just enough and the cold air refreezes it.
This squirrel was intently looking at me take a picture of the icicles. Looks like he is trying to warm up in the sun as well.
Back home the hamster is glad he isn't a squirrel out in the cold wild where hawks are constantly trying to eat you.
One of the benefits of winter in Illinois are the amazing sunrises. The ice particles in the air really separate out the colors.
That's all for this cold #wednesdaywalk :-)
