ENG Recently, I've encountered an ad or a poster about a recultivated park Żabie Doły (literally Frog Pits). I've never been there or have any recollection of it, if I had. All in all, I had no idea what was so special that differentiate them from other mine pools and sedimentary ponds. It turned out that much.
Dziennik Zachodni pisał tak:
Do początku lat 50. XX wieku staw Kalina był czysty. Można było tu spotkać wędkarzy i wypoczywające nas stawem rodziny. Z pobliskiej hałdy do stawu zaczęły jednak dostawać się zanieczyszczenia. To właśnie tutaj przez kilkadziesiąt lat składowane były odpady produkcyjne z Zakładów Chemicznych „Hajduki”. Teraz staw Kalina zanieczyszczony jest m.in. fenolami czy węglowodorami aromatycznymi.
ENG On my way we wanted visit Kalina in Świętochłowice pond that is called a ticking time bomb filled with highly poisonous chemicals like fenols and benzen. It looks quite nice but intensive chemical reek smarted throat like horse radish or wasabi.

ENG Nature and landscape protected area Żabie Doły turned out to be superb place to spend one's time. These ponds, contrary to stated above Kalina pond, weren't polluted thus lots of birds fancied them. Municipal funds (European as well) allowed preparation of walking tracks for visitors, for bicycles as well. There watchtowers set up in order to let one observe birds. Unfortunately, it's November and we didn't see any of them apart from ducks that don't fly away for winter.
