Greetings to all and happy December, now close to Christmas, hoping that this time brings us peace, prosperity, joy and that it brings a new year with many positive things. After a long time of publishing a recipe, due to multiple occupations outside of Hive; Today I returned to my beloved Amazing Drinks community, to share with you a recipe for a drink that I used to make years ago, and the one that I have modified today and named TAMA-ORANGE, , since it is a mixture of green tamarind with orange and lime. By the way, I harvested the tamarinds and limes on my backyard. The orange is a gift.

This drink is inspired by my cousin, el Ánima del Potrero, who used to drink a decoction of green tamarind, sweetened with cane sugar, because he really liked its flavor, and it also allowed him to purify his body. My Aunt Chichita shared this recipe with me (because I didn't know my cousin), and since I've known this drink, I started preparing it, especially during the tamarind season, which is twice a year, times when I can harvest them when they are green. However, today I have modified this preparation. With that said, let's get to the recipe! With that said, let's get to the recipe!

THE RECIPE / LA RECETA

Time, ingredients and equipment

  • Preparation time: This is a very simple recipe, as long as you have all the ingredients ready, so you will only need 15 minutes to make it.

  • Quantities may vary according to availability and individual taste.

  • Servings: 1,200 ml of this delicious acidic drink (tama-orange).

  • 200 g of green tamarinds (I used less quantity, approximately 50 g, that is why I recommend increasing the quantity), so that you can perceive the delicate and delicious flavor of green tamarind.

  • 1 orange.

  • 1 lime or lemon (I used a lime)

  • Sweetener to your liking. I used 120 g of white sugar.

  • Ice cubes (optional). Here I used regular ice cubes and flavor cubes made with Jamaica flower infusion.

  • Enough water to wash the tamarinds.

  • 250 ml of water to boil the green tamarinds.

  • 600 ml of cold water for the mixture.

  • Jug, knife, spoon, stirrer, cups, pot, plate, glasses, strainer, measuring cups, etc.

Tiempo, ingredientes y equipo

  • 1 naranja.

  • 1 lima o limón (yo utilicé una lima)

  • Endulzante a tu gusto.

  • Jarra, cuchillo, cucharilla, removedor, tazas, olla, plato, vasos, colador, tazas medidoras, etc.

THE PROCEDURE / EL PROCESO

After having all the ingredients and utensils at hand, remove the skin from the tamarinds with a knife, rinse them and boil them in 250 ml of water, over high heat, for approximately ten minutes.

Meanwhile, cut and squeeze the orange and lime (or lemon), making sure that no seeds fall into the juice. In this case, I obtained approximately 250 ml of juice from the two fruits. Reserve.

Reservar.

After the cooking time, the tamarind should be soft and have left its essence in the water. Remove from heat and wait for it to cool. Then strain the liquid and serve in a jug.

Next, add the citrus juice, the sweetener, the remaining water and mix well to integrate all the ingredients. The sour or tama-orange drink is ready.

Serve in tall glasses with ice cubes, which can be flavored or regular cubes. Here you can see how the drink is colored, due to the use of cubes made with Jamaica flower infusion, while the other glass remains with its original color. Both are delicious.

This drink is tart and delicious. Although the green tamarind on this occasion is very subtle, when using the recommended amount of it, a more powerful flavor is obtained. It is an ideal drink to calm the heat, in addition to being very beneficial for the liver. All that remains is to say: Cheers!

Solo queda decir: ¡Salud!
