Afternoon everyone….

Today is the third anniversary of the passing of the greatest dog ever my buddy Roscoe.

Roscoe was a pure bred Golden Retriever that we bought as a puppy. He was with us for just under fourteen and a half years. While that’s a pretty good run for a Golden, it was way too short to me.

Roscoe taught me as much as I taught him. See we had no idea that Roscoe was deaf, when we bought him and neither did the breeder. It took us month to figure it out.

Here’s how we figured it out. Roscoe had a habit of laying and sleeping at the top of our stair landing when we were out. One day I came home with my daughter (who at the time was still in a carrier). I opened the door making a bunch of noise with bags, and shut the door. Roscoe didn’t wake up until I put my foot on the stair, the vibration woke him immediately.

We took him to the vet and got him tested that week. It was confirmed, he was 100% deaf.

There are so many stories I would love to share with you, but I’d be writing for days then.

He loved going for walks. Is a matter of fact, we would leave his leash on the landing behind the door. He would grab the leash in his mouth and bring it to me. Basically saying let’s go for a walk dad.

Roscoe was a seventy pound lap dog. He tried to fit in the smallest spots ever.

Here’s a quick story. When Roscoe was about three, we put an above ground oval pool in the back yard. It was a fairly large pool for above ground. It was eighteen feet across by thirty two feet wide, and was fifty four inches high.

We had a locking ladder to get into the pool. The steps on it were about six inches deep by about twenty inches wide. I had Roscoe in the yard playing with him. My daughter asked me to go in the pool with her. So I stopped playing and went in the pool.

Roscoe was running around the pool everywhere we went to. Evangeline (my daughter) asked me to give her a piggyback ride. The next thing I hear is splash. I thought somebody threw something in the pool.

Nope…..

It was Roscoe.

He managed to climb the ladder stairs somehow to get to me. He jumped in and swam right to me. He never managed to do it again after that, but it did happen.

He would also lay right next to my shoes as well. He never ate any shoes, clothing or Evangeline’s toys. He just liked to lay on or by them.

So today while they are great memories of the best dog ever. It’s sad that he’s been gone for three years now.

IN MEMORY OF ROSCOE….

Here are some random pictures of him through the years.
