Vegetable pear or sayote came from a gourd family. In botany, sayote is considered as fruit, It grows all year long in a warm climate. It’s leaves, stems and fruit are edible and are mainly used in cooking, though you can also consume the fruit raw. This mild taste fruit is easy to cook and prepare. It’s fruit can be sauteed, roasted or a great addition to soup.
Ingredients
Sayote, medium size, sliced
Carrot, jullienne
Red Capsicum, sliced
Onion
Garlic
Minced beef, 300g
water , 1 cup
Pandan leaf, optional
Bay leaves, optional
Preparations
- Saute onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add the minced beef and stir fry till lightly brown. You may add the pandan and bay leaf, if using.
- Add the carrots and the sayote. Mix well to combine all flavors.
- Add the water and let it boil then simmer.
- Add the capsicum and cook for a few minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper according to taste.
We usually serve sauteed sayote with rice.
You can also add more vegetables to add more flavor and texture. It's simple and tasty for a home cooked meals.
