Making steam Rice cake or Puto in Tagalog is super easy. This delicious snack is famous in my country, Philippines. I remember having it most of the time during childhood, especially Birthday parties. A perfect snack, breakfast or have it anytime of the day. Best with soup or have it alone.

There are lots of variations of Rice cake or Puto, Some add eggs, cheese and some adds additional local flavoring like Ube or pandan essence But whichever way, surely it will be a delightful treat.

Ingredients:

  • All Purpose flour, 1 ¼ cups sifted
  • Baking powder, 1 tbsp
  • White sugar, ¼ cup
  • Water, ½ cup
  • Fresh milk, ½ cup
  • Melted butter or Vegetable oil, 1 tbsp
  • Pinch of salt

Procedure:

  1. Combine the Dry ingredients and add the wet ingredients. Whisk until the texture becomes smooth.
  2. Place the mixture into each rice cake moulder and steam for 10 -15 minutes. You can add a cube of cheese on top, 5 minutes before it’s done and cook for another 5 minutes.
  3. Serve warm and Enjoy!

Tips:

  • You don't need to grease your moulder
  • If using an aluminium steamer, Add a clean cloth at the bottom of the lid to prevent from condensation.
  • you'll know it's ready when the top is firm.
  • Add butter on top of the cake for a classic taste.

Enjoy this Delicious Fluffy Rice cake in just under 40 minutes.
