Grill'd is a wonderful, relatively new, burger franchise that has made a great attempt to cater for people with different
food allergies, restrictions or requirements.
Are you vegetarian? Socially outcast just because you choose not to eat meat out of compassion for animals?
Do you have celiac disease (gluten sensitive)? Are you diabetic and have to monitor your carbohydrate intake?
Well, Grill'd has all sorts of menu options for your particular needs. Yay!
Plant based paradise
When you order a meal, they also give you a bottle top with which you can "vote" towards one of three local charities which gets their monthly donation. Big yay!
Typically, the food is incredible too. There are all sorts of sliders, burgers, chips and sauces on offer, including deep fried pickles. Yes, you read that correctly!
Sliders, burgers, chips, sweet potato fries and battered pickles
Today I wanted to try one of the newly released "Beyond Burger", and because of my recent Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis, I chose to choose the low carb super bun, which is why it looks funny.
Each hamburger comes with a skewer and a flag to hold it all together.
Low carb super bun and plant based patty
The low carb super bun itself was great, and it didn't taste different enough from a regular bun for me to particularly notice, it just looked different. Once you get over the appearance to the buns, you will love it!
As for the "Beyond Burger" patty itself, it looks like* a raw uncooked meat patty* would and I think that might be a visual turn off for any vegans that they are looking to convert. The texture is similar to a meat patty but it still tastes like vegetable matter to me and very little like regular beef patty would. I could be wrong of course and I encourage people to try these things for themselves, but for me (someone who would rarely turn down any particular food), I am not a fan of this.
i also doubt that if you want to convert your meat-eater friends to go meat free, that this would be transitional food you're looking for.
It doesn't look very appetising, does it?
Maybe the "Beyond Burger" just needed some soy sauce mixed through it to change the colour and add a bit more salt / taste to it and it might be on a winner, but for now, this wasn't for me.
**I love the Grill'd franchise **and if you can find one near you, I do encourage you to check them out, especially if you have food based special requirements. If you're a vegetarian or even a meat-eater and want to try something different, please give this a try and let me know what you think in the comments section below.
In Adelaide, I know that there are restaurants in Tea Tree Plaza shopping centre and the CBD. Try it for yourself.
