I’m up late because I have just submitted an assessment 21 minutes before the just-before-Midnight cutoff point.
The reason I remember the time was because at 22 minutes to Midnight, my laptop decided to disconnect from the WIFI!
That hasn’t happened at all since I bought the laptop.
My router was working. So what I did was connect the laptop to my phone’s mobile hotspot and refreshed the. It worked and I got to submit my assignment with 21 minutes to spare.
I call this phenomena the “wall of opposition”. You have a goal, you get excited and just when it appears to be easy, there’s a wall of opposition.
Seth Godin called it ”The Dip” in his book of the same name. It’s a short book and a quick read, but it’s good. The premise is basically you have to figure out whether the path you’re on will lead to a positive outcome, despite any hardships you have to endure or whether to cut your losses and find something else.
Later, at 3am in the morning there was the loud banging of mental on metal and shouting and swearing.
After the sun came up. I looked outside my back window to discover that the exercise bike missing from my backyard!
It had been there at least 20 years, had rusted to the point of uselessness and the seat hand rotten off, but they stole it anyway!
I should have thrown it out long ago, but its presence became an emotional anchor. I could check to see if anyone had been in my backyard.
The irony is that when there are inspections, he’ll have to deal with the clutter.
But the wall of opposition in this sense is that it has pushed my plans to go to England back 6 months.
The police decided that it wasn’t worth pursuing (they only really help wealthy people) but I got them to fill out a police report anyway.
As an update, the neighbour along with his friends had been stealing bike frames to sell the scrap metal.
They got rid of all it. But that doesn’t mean that I am safe.
This morning I discovered graffiti on my fence. The first time ever since the property was built. It’s just a small “tag” of someone’s “gang name” but it’s a sign of disrespect.
It used to be peaceful here. I made the decision, based on the suggestion of some friends, to get security cameras.
I got cheap internal ones.
They work great in “day mode” but in “night mode” the infrared light bounces off of the window glass and blinds the camera. Pointing inside, the night vision is insanely good.
I’ve also bought some micro SD cards to record everything that goes on.
In conclusion, life sometimes gets in the way of your dreams and goals but sometimes those are moments of learning and growth.
There will always be a wall of opposition, even for things that are beneficial to everyone.
The question is: how are you going to get past, over or through that wall?
