moderation.jpgWhen I first went to New York I loved it, I was left speechless and was looking around in excitement. Paris and New York were the two towns that overwhelmed me, each one for its own reasons. But the huge skyscrapers gave me the impression of a dimension inhumane that is why I never felt the city friendly. There is something in the balance of the relation between man and nature that seemed disrupted, that was felt as supernatural and therefore strange, bizarre, and foreign to me. Paris on the other hand was in a more humane dimension, a city that was inspiring me with harmony and balance in its proportions.

Ancient Greeks loved harmony and believed that METRON ARISTON, moderation in all things is the code to live by. Everything in moderation, nothing in excess is what I learned from my ancestors and their wisdom.
But beware! Moderation for Ancient Greeks did not mean moderate with the meaning of average or regular. It means measure, not excess, quality to restrain, a double checking process before indulging ourselves to whatever we choose.

I try to use this wisdom and carefully integrate it in my life, incorporate it in my body. I love food but not unregulated food intake, love a glass of wine but not getting wasted, going out but not staying up all night, making love but not having uncontrollable sex, surfing in the internet but not living through others lives. I love moderation and its in combining the opposites and extremes that I challenge myself. It’s more difficult to enjoy being than doing, crying than holding it in, loving than fearing, struggling than succeeding. It’s harder to stay playful than moan, imaginative than imitative, taking a risk than staying at the comfort zone. It’s more intriguing to me to keep ends meet in chaos than jump in chaos, remain functional in a middle of a crisis, sane when a long lasting relationship breaks down, alert in silence, still in talking, conscious in an over weighted schedule, spiritual in discipline….

It’s about the balance of the two wings of the eagle that makes him fly so high and with that certitude and the balance is the most important thing in our daily lives. Keep steady, well balanced and moderation in all the things you do and enjoy the Parthenons you can create that stay in time precious monuments of harmony, metron and elegance and get prepared for peak experiences, not mediocre ones.

You only have to keep the golden ratio, the divine proportion in your life and let the rest be!!!
