As is often the case, the patterns in my life are really shouting out to me these few days.
Yesterday and the day before were full of these tiny synchronicities. Let's see if we can find any patterns.
First is love.
I've noticed many friends have complicated sorts of attraction and friendships where the lines weren't clearly defined. I found myself in multiple conversations talking about what love is, and that's a great topic to make a post about (I will! Soon!) But the crux of what I had to say was this:
"Real love is just love, it doesn't care what form it takes. Disappointment, anger, jealousy, none of these are love. They are valid feelings but love is separate from all that, love is pure and deep appreciation for someone's existence in your life."
I've found myself and three or four people close to me trying to pick apart what is what with regards to their feelings towards someone. It may feel stressful to some, but to us it's all very exciting, because love is always a beautiful thing, even when it's platonic, even when it's not meant to last a lifetime, even when it's different from what we envisioned.
Second is attention
This one, as most of you know, keeps coming up for me, and will continue to, but I've noticed this pattern of people seeking me out, and often not for the things I would like them to seek me out for. Then I have to work on my expectations and trying to accept things for what they are and appreciate what I can about the situation.
Right as I'm trying to promote my books and my podcast, there is a lull in attention.
It seems that my promotions aren’t reaching anyone, but then as I’m feeling frustrated about having a lack of reach, a random guy on discord comments on something I said on my podcast. A student tells me she’s half way through my book. A friend asks to buy a copy directly because she doesn’t want to give Amazon any money. Another friend messages me and tells me they love the artwork and want to read it.
So sometimes when I feel the least relevant, and like my work has little impact, that’s actually when people are putting the energy into reading them or listening or clearing their plate in order to be able to read or listen later.
Patience. Yes.
Then there are the algorithms. It seems as if Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are conspiring to make sure my work doesn't reach anyone. It wasn't like that before. I would get a lot more attention, especially when I avoided posting links (the algorithms usually hate links).
When this happens my first reaction is frustration. It feels like things are out of my control. If they showed my work to 200 people I might sell 20 copies but if they show it to 20 I can only sell 2. I did everything they asked of me, so why?
Well there is nothing I can do about it, so I try to use that frustration to find something I CAN change. I can seek for the inconsistency in my own life and my own presentation, maybe it will lead to more harmony in my life.
What’s something that makes me feel disharmonious? Well, the price of my book has made me feel a little uncomfortable for a while. Only getting $2.70 from the $3.60 per copy didn't feel right, so I raised the price to $9.99 and decided to give it away for free to anyone who asks.
I feel much better now!
What else? What else?
Friendship
We have a (not so) secret discord channel called Be Awesome. Usually it's 5 or 6 of us, but every once in awhile there are another 10-15 people who stop by. Somehow, very synchronistically, 6 of the friends who are less regular showed up, two for the first time in a year. Very strange and interesting timing.
This ties back to how social media is making me feel and my last post about The "fans" of the future being friends, and how smaller audiences will be able to sustain us.
It's as if the universe is telling me that I already have quite a rich community around me, and that maybe if I focused on bringing out the best in that, it might be much more rewarding for all of us, a win/win all around, and the philosophical of the Be Awesome channel is the idea that selfishness and selflessness don't exist when we have a holistic approach. We are good to ourselves in order to be good to others and good to others in order to be good to ourselves, as we are all connected.
Always seeking this balance!
Meanwhile I have met two new wonderful friends from Indonesia. It's amazing speaking about spirituality with a devout Muslim and finding how much we have in common and learning from each other. I also have connected with someone from Armenia (NOT Albenia, SORRY!) who runs a community with a similar concept to Cross Culture on Facebook. She is now on Hive, so please follow her and give her some tips on improving her posts and how to find her place at Hive, her username is @flameysoul. She has been scammed a lot by internet people and the economic situation over there is pretty dire, so she is very wary of anything claiming to be an earning opportunity online. I hope she can make many friends here and see that it's a safe place, and also that it's about much more than just making money. Be careful though, she is fiery hahahaha :-P
All three people mentioned are fiery, like me, and two have Leo energy. Nice to connect with people who feel like they come from the same planet as me.
Somehow everything is coming together, I am bringing people together. I can never know the extent of my influence, big or small, and this is the lesson life is teaching me now, but I can always be 100% sure of whether I followed through with the things I am passionate about. I have total control of what I put out there, and then the world will decide what to do with it.
These threads all weave together somehow.
I can also never be 100% certain what the universe is trying to say to me, but I sure know which direction it's pushing me in and I almost always get an idea of what I need more of and what I need less of. Where will I be in a week or a year, what surprises might be in store for me, that is another story though.
All I can do is enjoy the ride and keep living!
❤️
