When we're talking about the insects that should be wiped off the face of the earth there is only one insect that comes to my mind.
An insect that is always in our household, the unwanted tenant, our lovely night resident.
The one, the only
Now I know some of our white folks may be like...
Why kill em? That's a bit harsh...
They're actually very useful
But I'm in the Naija Community and I know for a fact that our folks aren't particularly sympathetic to this one. Like we're sympathetic to anything 😆
Now its actually well known that the cockroach has some useful abilities for us humans.
Although they have their good points there are also some bad points too.
If that's not enough reasons for their eradication, heck I'm going to even get a bit petty and share my own personal reason why they should be gone from our world.
It was a quiet night in Port Harcourt, its always was like that before a storm. I was a little child of about 6 years of age, still innocent, full of light and joy.
That certain evening, I stayed up late watching my favorite cartoon as during those times it was quite normal for there to be light throughout the night.
Alone in my room, the only source of illumination being my bright TV screen. I was the only one awake as it was way beyond the twelfth hour, at least I thought I was the only one awake.
Little did I know that our nightly tenant was taking his rounds using the high road. Now on a normal day, he would have gone about doing his business unbeknownst to me, and if our paths never crossed I wouldn't have been scarred for life, but fate is a cruel thing.
The cockroach, a master in espionage and creeping, slipped up and lost his footing of my ceiling.
Falling straight down into the clothes of that young boy whose eyes were glued to the magic joy box.
At first all was quiet as he didn't notice anything. Then he felt the alien touch of something spiny on his back.
No sound I've ever heard or made was louder than that first scream, that was pure surprise and fear. The second scream was a more throaty shout that was made from panic.
It was then I realized that whatever was in my shirt was moving and moving quickly. I rapidly took off the shirt and went to on the light.
I saw it creep out, disgruntled and confused, me in shock and close to tears just watched it slowly walk, the finally entering under my bed. I needed no other alarm. I gingerly offed my TV, offed the light and went to sleep on the couch in the parlor.
So now I think you can see that my hatred and pain comes from a place deep inside😔.
I simply wait for that decree for the eradication of all types of roaches. I assure whoever makes it has my vote, signature or whatever means of support they need.
This is my response to the weekly prompt of the Naija Community found here
